Default Posted about this in a different thread..UPDATED

Dh's car quit working on our 3 year anniversary (April 29th) dh's car needs a new radiator sp? and its at work...some dude at work said will fix it for 100 if we buy the radiator by saturday BUT now he says he cant fix it cause more is wrong with it and we'd have to take it somewhere to be fixed. i have to take dh to and from work. thats wake up at 4 am to drive 40 miles there and 40 more back with a infant and toddler & then back again around dinner time!! He can't drive my car cause #1 it's new #2 he's a crazy driver #3 its a stick and he doesn't know how #4 he's uncomfortable with the size (SUV)
I am so stuck and don't know how to fix this situation because we can't afford to get the car fixed. We just bought a washer and dryer because ours broke the day we brought Kianna home. We can't afford another bill...I am not sure how long I can keep up this driving him to and from work. Ugh!! What to do!!

I would say to take him out and let him learn to drive stick, but that might be a horrible ride for the kids,

Is there anyone he could maybe carpool with?
My hubby's car has been out of commission for a few months now. (Needed a new engine and now the transmission is having fits.) He's been riding to work with someone who lives in a neighboring town that has to come through our town anyways to get to work. Which reminds me we need to get cash out for gas money.
It is a small price to pay for you and the girls to get the rest you need, not to mention all the added miles to the new vehicle.
Good Luck!! Here's hoping that the repairs are a quick, easy and cheap fix!

Well I talked to my mom about my issues lol

She talked to my dad and he said to just wait and keep taking him to work for now. There is no one anywhere at all near us or in our direction who works at his job...so carpooling is out and my dad is helping me pay for my car and told me not to allow him to drive my car! It's sad when your father in law many states away knows what a crazy driver you are!!! So my dad has a lot at work that he rents out to this dude who does auctions of abbandond cars. He says there are some real nice cars that are in his lot right now and he'll talk to the guy about when the next auction is and hopefully he'll remember to go and see if he can get a car for him at a reasonable price. It'll be cheaper than getting the car fixed at this point. The estimate to get it fixed is up to 3 thousand dollars....and thats without looking at everything.....and I know that there are more things wrong (like the odometeor isn't working)

Ouch! Pricey repairs. That's what I fear for DH's transmission. He wants to kept the car because the body and interior are in excellent condition. It's a Chrysler so he really doesn't want to get rid of it in case it becomes a 'collector's item'.
I hope that it pans out well for you guys if you go the car auction route. Sometimes you can find a real gem at them.

GOOD LUCK!

Honestly, Kara, you don't really want him taking your car anyway, 'cause then you'd have no vehichle and you need to have one for emergencies with the kiddos. What about public transportation?? Maybe there's a local bus station close by that gets him close to work?? Worse case, can he find a job closer to home?? That drive (espec. at 4am) just plain stinks... so I feel for you!

I agree...I've already had to use it for an emergency while he was at work. Katelyn is so crazy lately it'd be scary to not have a car lol I wish I knew what to do with her!!!

I asked dh about taking a bus...but then I don't think I'd ever see him. If it's anything like the bus system in other places we've lived his 40 minute one way commute would at least double....He'd never have time to do anything! It's already hard to get him to do things he has to do on a daily basis!

He worked so hard to get this job....I'd hate to ask him to leave it for something else but I will look. He just started in October...and I don't think it's a good enough reason to quit...I'd rather just suffer through it than make him do something we'll both regret.

It would help if Kate would sleep at nap time!!! I need a nap so bad!
He has tomorrow off work I soooo can't wait!

I know that you were looking for a new place to live right?? Is it possible to look closer to Kevin's work? That would be helpful if it was possible...
