Default postpartum headaches

I have a 14 day old daughter and every single day since her birth I have had a horrible headache. I've actually had two migraines, as well. This is very unusual for me...I did, however, have headaches very frequently in my first trimester of pregnancy, so I thought maybe it's a hormone thing. Has anyone else experienced this? I wasn't sure if it warranted a call to my doc.

I have always suffered from migraines pg or not. I realize that mine do come on worse with my cycles each month. I would mention it to your doctor as you mentioned you never had them before. I may just be the hormones, it couldn't hurt to see what the doctor says. Good luck...I know how those migraines feel :-[ I forgot to ask, did you have an epidural? If so you may be experiencing a "spinal headache" which is very common after the epidural.

Congrats on your baby! Sorry to hear about the headaches. Did you have an epideral? Some women have residual affects from the epi that cause headaches. Or it might be hormones, combined with lack of sleep. Check with your doc just to make sure. And make sure you're drinking lots of water - maybe dehydration causing headaches.

Yes, I actually had 3 epidurals (and still had the pleasure of feeling a forceps birth!) I thought it might be from that, but the doc said that an epidural headache only lasts for 48 hours. I will mention it at my check up...I just hate taking meds...I feel like it's not healthy for me or my breastfeeding baby!!

I know how you feel about not wanting to take any meds while bf, but if the headaches are that bad they can give you tylenol w/ codeine which is safe to take while pg/bf. (I had to see a nuerologist during my pg and was given a prescription for it).I had an epidural for my c/s and they gave me a bit too much...I had a headache for about 2.5 weeks. Like you mentioned you had 3, so it wouldn't surprise me if that is what caused your headaches.

Alittle late on this thread, but Ihad my som vaginally w/ an epidural 10 days ago. Ihave had a constant headache behind my left eye for a week. I bottle feed, so I can take meds and they only offer temp relief. I was told an epidural headache lasts only 48-72 hours and is positional. Mine are constant!

Welcome to the board!

Congrats on your darling baby too.

I'm thinking you need to let your doctor know. Might need to do an epidural blood patch for the headache. Your doctor can best direct you.
