Ok, so I know people have posted a thousand times asking for potty training advice. I can't seem to find anything that answers a question similar to mine so thought I'd post a new thread!
Alyssa is showing lots of signs of being ready to potty train, and my mom even said this to me today (I had been noticing it for awhile). She doesn't wet her diaper at night anymore. Every single time she has a wet diaper, she pulls it off. And thats even with any type of clothing on-this girl is good.
She'll sit on her potty now (which has always been in the bathroom-when I go, I see sometimes if she wants to...of course she only did it once, which I praised her tremedously for!!!) But I don't know if her communication skills are good enough for this training to really kick in. I have had her going to a speech therapist because she isn't talking much. She babbles alot, but I often wonder if she understands anything I say! Her speech is developing along the right timeline, just very, very delayed.
So I guess my question would be something along the lines of-How important are communication and verbal skills when learning to train? Are there some special things I can do to increase her understanding of using the potty? I'm going to ask the speech therapist when I see her next week, but just thought y'all might have some helpful advice before then. Thanks!
And Val...blog idea! How to potty-train a child with a speech delay or disorder.
