Prayers Needed for Candace & Alvin Salima
This is a big one...
Candace was an LDS blogger here at Families.com and later took the position as Blog Manager at LDSBlogs.com. As it happens, her husband, Alvin, is in dire need of a kidney transplant. They did have a donor lined up but the donor's husband has since decided that he does not want her to do it after all. Alvin’s situation is desperate. He is in the ICU now.
I am writing to ask you for several things:
First, would you please include Alvin and Candace in your prayers.
Second, would you please pray that their donor’s husband’s heart softens and he allows her to donate a kidney to Alvin.
Third, could you please spread the word to everyone you know about Alvin’s need. He needs a donor with a blood type of O+ or O-. If anyone with an O blood type would be willing to be tested to see if their tissues would match Alvin’s, they can contact Eve Clougherty of the Transplant Team at 801-507-3380 and go through a preliminary interview over the phone. If they pass that interview then they will be sent a packet with information and forms to fill out. At that point, if all that looks good then they would have to give a blood sample to see if their blood mixes well with Alvin's. So far as I know, geographic location is not an issue. (The Salimas live in Utah.) Prospective donors should also know that the Salimas’ insurance covers every portion of the donor's bills and the donor pays nothing.
Your prayers and spreading the word to anyone you know would be greatly appreciated.
