Sadly, I have no answer. Just wanted you to know you are not alone. My dh is a Moroccan and I am an American woman too. I had the same struggle. He thinks it is more important for me to mumble sounds that have no meaning to me than to pray in English. (no disrespect....I know they are the precious words of the Koran...but if you understand nothing of what you are saying....they are just sounds you are spitting out as told to do so). He once told me Allah wouldn't accept my prayers in English which discouraged my wanting to do them at all.

I believe that Allah is merciful and understanding. Muslims from Arab countries feel that Koran and prayers can only be truly understood or felt in Arabic because the Koran was sent in Arabic. I feel it was sent in Arabic BECAUSE the Prophet (PBUH) spoke Arabic. How much sense would it make to send it in Spanish or French to an Arabic speaking Prophet (PBUH)? I feel that Allah means for us all to be included and doesn't turn His back on me for speaking/understanding English and will accept my HEARTFELT English prayers.

So, I have the same struggle and feelings and wanted you to know that while I can offer no real solution.....I do offer comfort and understanding as you aren't alone in this concern.
