Default Praying question/ help

Please help. I convert to Islam about 3 years ago. I do practice Ramamdan, donations, every thing. I am married to Morrocan Muslim man who I love. He is upset that I do not pray the same way as the prophet.
Let me expain. I am American and I grew up Christian. I convert to Islam. I can only speak english. So when I pray; I pray in English, and the pray my mother taught me. I tryed to pray the prophet way, but I did not understand what I was saying.I also felt very weird. I think it is important to know what I am saying. I have a strong relationship with Allah, I do not think I should be punished for not praying the same way. I can not help where I was born. My husband is worried that he is doing something wrong in Allahs eyes by me not praying the same way. Please help us figure this out. Also we have a great marriage, this isssue comes up about every 6 months. It bothers my husband, so it bothers me.

Sadly, I have no answer. Just wanted you to know you are not alone. My dh is a Moroccan and I am an American woman too. I had the same struggle. He thinks it is more important for me to mumble sounds that have no meaning to me than to pray in English. (no disrespect....I know they are the precious words of the Koran...but if you understand nothing of what you are saying....they are just sounds you are spitting out as told to do so). He once told me Allah wouldn't accept my prayers in English which discouraged my wanting to do them at all.

I believe that Allah is merciful and understanding. Muslims from Arab countries feel that Koran and prayers can only be truly understood or felt in Arabic because the Koran was sent in Arabic. I feel it was sent in Arabic BECAUSE the Prophet (PBUH) spoke Arabic. How much sense would it make to send it in Spanish or French to an Arabic speaking Prophet (PBUH)? I feel that Allah means for us all to be included and doesn't turn His back on me for speaking/understanding English and will accept my HEARTFELT English prayers.

So, I have the same struggle and feelings and wanted you to know that while I can offer no real solution.....I do offer comfort and understanding as you aren't alone in this concern.

Salaam
Salat does not have to be in arabic. The quran weas brought down in arabic so that it will nopt be corrupted but no where in the quran does it say you have to make your prayers in arabic.I am a re-vert for 2 years now but my husband has been muslim for 15 yrs HAMDULLILAH but we all husband, me and (my step)our kids make our prayers in english. English salat for us is more meaningful because we know what we are reciting and saying and God is universal he speaks all languages. Study and search the quran for your awnser to prayers and salat in english or arabic or ebonics or what-not. Dont feel intimidated or less muslimah like for doing prayers-salat in english we do all of our rakas and prayers in english because that is the language we speak.
