Primary elections: who's got your vote?
I was just reading through the "Beating Hilary" thread ( http://forums.families.com/dummy-text,p481144#poststop) and found it very interesting. I thought about just bumping it, now that the primaries are here (some are even over) but thought that I might be better off to just start a new thread. I am just curious where everyone stands now.
Who do you hope wins the primary election and why?

I am a registered democrat, but I seldom vote that way. It is a carryover from having lived in NYC pre Giuliani. Republicans were of little consequence in NYC before him.
So on primary day, I am voting for Obama. Now, Hillary has all the party support in NJ - but I don't trust the money that backs this. In NJ, it doesn't matter what the people think, only what the party thinks. They buy a lot of influence for themselves and shut down the political process with their pay to play and corruption.
So when I see her overwhelmingly backed by corrupt NJ machine politicians, I think that if she is elected, somehow they will benefit. She makes them look good.
My local democratic party machine has overlooked african american political leaders, while taking their support for granted. It is no accident that black leaders in NJ are largely supporting Obama. It is not just a race thing, it goes to the disgusting system we have here. At this point, the NJ democrats are not a political party - they're a politburo. And when local primaries don't go their way and their hand picked people are not nominated via popular vote for local elections - they actually help campaign against the people who are running with the will of the people who make up the party.
This is the same machine money that backed gov McGreevey and 8 billion dollars from his so called schools construction corp (Actually schools corruption corp) is still missing. It went to buy polluted land from local friends of local corrupt politicians - often against the advice of the school boards, who are non partisan.
Even if Obama gets the popular vote here (which he won't) the NJ democratic party machine gets to appoint a bunch of delegates in addition to those who are there from popular vote. And guess who they will appoint? Uh huh. All for Hillary.
She's going to win, but I just can't go for anyone who makes the NJ democratic party establishment look good. They all need to be thrown out, from Corzine on down, and replaced with new blood. With a lot of limits on donations and contracts.
I'll vote in the primary for Obama, and "send a message". But I don't think anyone will listen.

I'm a little torn honestly. I am researching Obama as well. This will be the first ever primary or election in which I've voted democrat.

Giuliani looks weak for Florida. If he can't carry that, then he has lost his mojo for sure.

You know, I don't think he has a chance at all. I did like him, but like Thompson, I don't think he was ever really in it--KWIM? I don't think he really wanted to be president.
I'm researching and comparing issues between McCain, Huckabee and Obama. It's kind of funny because generally, I would say that the Democrats are too liberal for me but this time around, I think the Republicans are too conservative for me. So I'm tending towards Obama. . .although I do like McCain. ( And I really like Michelle Obama too--does that count as a reason to vote? )

Oh and IF Clinton wins her party's nomination, then I would rather see her running against McCain than Huckabee. Of course I'm not a big Huckabee fan anyways.

I personally would like to see Edwards running against McCain or Huckabee.
I don't really like Clinton or Obama...
My first choice was Thompson, but since he dropped out. I had to explore other Republican candidates.
My primary votes today go to Edwards and McCain..
Today is Florida's primaries..

My husband registered independant and didn't realize that because he didn't chose a part he can't vote in the primary. I think it's a bit silly that you can only vote for your party in the begining....what if you changed your mind and don't like who's running for your party and want to vote for the other side?
SO we wanted to vote for Obama but I forgot to register...

I really liked Thompson, as well,(I actually l oved his ideas about eliminating the Fed Dept. of Ed and the IRS!!) but I don't think his heart was really in it. My husband is still trying to sell me on Mitt Romney, but I don't know, he seems a bit too conservative and I really don't think he will win the nomination anyway.
Hillary in 08 signs are popping up all over my neighborhood and it really scares me to think of that woman as our Commander in Chief! . I just hope she doesn't win the nomination, lately she has really been dropping in the polls, so I still have hope. Obama would be ok, I would probably still vote Republican, but if we lost due to a weak candidate I think he could do a respectable job of leading the nation, can't say the same for Clinton. We are in a downward spiral on the economic front, so it seems like the next step in the cycle is always to elect a democrat !
