Default Problem with potty (number 2 :-O)

my 23 month old daughter is potty trained (not at night yet)....but we are having some "issues" with number 2....she REFUSES to poop in the potty and I do NOt know why...I have cleaned up more poo off my walls and floors then I even want to talk about! How can I help her go on the potty??

Please help...I have a newborn coming very soon and I would love to have this problem fixed ASAP!!

You answered you're own question. . .I highly suspect she is well aware that life is going to change pretty drastically and is acting accordingly. I would suggest that you make her help you clean it as appropriate but really make very little deal of it. Treat her pooping on the floor the same way you would if some one asked you to pass the mashed potatoes at dinner. She really wants your attention and wants to maintain it and pooping on the walls is sure to secure your attention.

I do agree with what Val has said...I remember when my DD was born and DS was almost 3 yo and he was potty trained...well... he decided he would poop anywhere but the potty and to make matters worse he was sick and had the runs!!! Eventually, got it under control and he went back to using the potty but it did take some time...He used to love to take books in the bathroom too which really helped encourage him to use the potty...and he still loves to read in the bathroom(TMI!!!)!! Maybe if you are able to spend some more one on one time doing things with her and when this happens do your best to take it in stride and like Val says not make a big issue out of it...although difficult...It is one of those things you might have to grin and bear and eventually she will figure it out and surprise, surprise...there will be shouts of joy!!! Maybe put some books by the potty....!!! Good luck!!

Yes, I believe our above friends have answered this question.

When a new baby arrives, the entire household changes.
Routines get upset, and feathers can be ruffled, with the older siblings.

Backsliding does occur at this time with the potty training.
Almost would be better to just ignore it for a while, until
the schedule with the future newborn, and big sister
gets into a good routine.

I found a good blog from Valorie that might be helpful:

why look at that. . .I had forgotten I wrote that! Thanks Angie! This is on a side note, one reason I have never trained early and always waited until later. By the time older sib was 2, they were getting a brand new newborn.

Just wanted to check in...

Kaydee came and Jaeclyn is totally out of diapers! We havent had any relapses (tho she still holds in number 2 for days on end, she at least makes it to the potty now) She still wets the bed now and then but she has refused to put on a diaper at night, so whatever, i wont force her!
