Default Protecting children from predators

How do the laws in your state and community protect children from predators? Recently a teacher at a local high school was fired, not because he had molested children but because he had anonymous sex with an adult in a public restroom on the Parkway. The laws in our state say that anyone who is convicted of a sexual offense cannot teach in a public school. Even though he was well regarded, most of the parents and students were happy to see him go - they felt that it was only a matter of time before his behavior would extend to students.

We have laws regarding convicted sex offenders, and in churches, we are finding ways to identify and weed out those who would use their power and influence to exploit children and teens. Many youth organizations now run background checks on volunteer advisors, and give them special training.

Is it enough? Is it working?

Check woth your state's website.. or something.. Or point it out in your next city meeting.. We have open meetings in our city for issues like that.. One of the tv stations put a link on their site for sex offenders and etc.. see what your town can do.
Good Luck

Default Offenders

People with a truly predatory crime on their record shouldn't be teaching at schools, but a lot of people are on the registries for something stupid they did when they were a kid themselves. It's not as simple as saying everyone on the registry is a threat to kids, because that simply isn't the truth.

That really is a true statement. I have some good family friends who moved away to another state when I was in high school. Their son became good friends with the girl across the street who was a couple three years younger than he was. After he turned 18, they had sex a couple of times, she initiated it both times. He went to prison for 30 years. Statutory rape. I understand why the statutory rape law is in place, and I think for the most part it is a good law that keeps a lot of creeps away from young girls. But I think that sometimes, it harms young men who are not predators. I watched Leeza several years ago on this same thing. There was a gal and her boyfriend, he was a couple years older than she was, her family loved him, she got pregnant after the boyfriend turned 18. Her family didn't press charges, they loved him like a son, the state did and he went to prison.
