Question Question

Ok, Kurt has never seen a GI Dr. person, I had taken him to the ER and I told them what was going on because my clinic was closed and I had had enough of the excessive vomiting and the ER Dr. told me it was colic and gave me a pamplet then told me to give Kurt .5ML of Children's tylenol for the pain. Well I scehdualed an immediate appointment with Kurt's secondary appt. to make sure Kurt didn't have thrush and I told him the same thing I told the ER Dr. and he said it was colic and to give Kurt .4ML of infants tylenol and to recehdual an appt for the end of that month becuase Kurt had lost a whole lb. well 2 days before the reschedualed appt, I had brought Kurt into the ER again for having a fever even though he had tylenol in his system and they couldn't figure out what was wrong, no ear infection, no bladder infection nothing they even drew blood. Well we saw his primary Dr. 2 weeks ago which was his reschedualed appt and my 6week appt. and I told he my Dh's reflux his and I told her what Kurt was doing (arching back, screaming, clenching fists, excessive vomiting etc.) and she prescribe Prevacid right away the soulutabs. But what I was wondering could it have been mid diagnosed if he didn't see a GI Dr. person? He does seem to be doing a lot and I mean a lot better since being on the prevacid for two weeks, but every now and then he still runs a fever and he sees his primary Dr. again this friday for his 2month check up. please any info would be helpful and I am sorry this is so long

My son has reflux and is on prevacid, which does help, but he has NEVER gotten a fever from reflux. When you see the Dr next, I would ask them how he can get a fever from reflux, because I've never heard of that.

I found this at http://www.scribd.com/doc/955817/Baby-Acid-RefluxBaby Acid Reflux

Baby Acid Reflux is worth noting and learning more about. Babies are often seen messed up in their own spit. This is a common problem which is faced the parents of the babies especially after their meals. It is called as acid reflux and that is the why the baby spit up what he/she has consumed. However, this gets cured as the baby grows up or till the baby becomes 6 to 12 months old. This is mainly caused due to the pressure caused on the digestive system. It is not a simple task to know whether the baby is suffering from acid reflux, a constant check on the baby's health needs to be kept. This record can be maintained with the help or guidance of your baby's pediatrician.
What causes baby acid reflux:
The reflux is nothing but the acid, which due delicate digestive, travels back in the throat. The pressure created on the stomach is responsible for the reflux which results in the spiting up. If this reflux is seen over a longer period of time doctor's advice would be needed.
Symptoms to notice in the baby:
Vomiting or spiting up is the common symptom of baby acid reflux. Other prominent symptoms are loosing weight, continuous crying, difficulty in breathing, swallowing problems, frequent fever are also noticed in some baby's. Though some baby's are healthy a constant check should be kept on the baby.
Small necessary steps will definitely improve the baby's health
Big meals can be cut down into small frequent meals. Feeding at regular intervals will create less pressure on the stomach.
Holding the baby straight during and after the food will ease the digestive system and will let pass the gas by making the baby burp.
Change the consistency of the baby's diet /food. Make it a little thick, with your doctor's permission.
Breast feeding will make a bond between the mother and the child so doesn't hesitate in giving the natural nutrient to your loved one.
Make sure that the baby fed in less chaotic and a peaceful environment.
The baby should be made to sleep with the head slightly inclined and when he is awake make him/her sleep on the stomach for sometime after it's the meal.
If the baby is been fed by a sipper or a bottle check if the size of the nipple's hole is proper and no too large.
Use the reflux below to make your baby sleep on it.
All the above simple tips will make your baby lead a happy healthy life under proper doctor's guidance.

I would ask to see a ped. gastroenterologist(Ped. GI) b/c I've found most regular Ped.'s dont have the knowledge to deal with bad reflux cases.

You have to remember that reflux has a lot of the same symtoms as other GI problems and it is VERY important to KNOW which one it is. To start I would ask for an Upper GI (test) to make sure its reflux before I did anything else.

Hi my name is Kristin. My Son Jaxon had reflux as well. Some babies grow out of it and some others do not. We were fortunate that Jaxon did grow out of it. There are some things you need to know that can help your little one. First and foremost I would keep a joural on how many 'episodes' your little one has. My dr wanted to know how much he was throwing up (not exact measurments but a general idea on how many times a day) Jaxon lost weight which is why we had the most concern. He wouldnt sleep unless he was belly down on my chest almost sitting up. The dr tried to give him Zantec in liquid form. It only made things worse. We went in for the upper GI. The give your little one a bottle with Barium in it and have him drink it while doing the x ray thing. For us it was instantanious that Jaxon started to reflux and then threw up. He got prevacid for the reflux. He was switched to a Hypo Allergenic formula. Called Nutramigen. Then we were told to mix in some rice cereal with the formula to make it thicker (you need the stage three nipples) The thicker formula is harder to reflux. I really hope you can get the answers. I did notice it was a lot harder for Jaxon to regain the weight for a little bit then he became a chunk again. There are a lot of us Reflux mommies on here and we are here for you if you have any questions. HTH
