Default Question about infants and juice

I am on the WIC program, and I notcied this month Kaydee starts getting the Gerber juice. I remember with Jaecy I couldn't WAIT to give her juice ( I felt bad cause the formula smelled so horrible, I knew it had to taste bad)

Im not so sure Im ready for Kaydee to have it...I gave her a little bit the other day and she spit up about 10 times after...Im pretty sure its because of the reflux, not an allergy. The juice is, well liquid, and her formula has the rice starch in it so its a lot thicker--stays down better.

Is juice necessary right now? I know WIC usually only gives things that are nutritional...but Im assuming she doesnt NEED it for any reason....right?

no...juice really has no nutritional value, and if your uncomfortable with giving it then don't. She'll have enough juice when she's older

Brennan started at 6mnths too with the juice from WIC. I don't give juice in a bottle (it's easier for them to give it up at 1), so he is still learning with the cup. Until he figures that out he won't get juice too drink. Just for fun though I mixed his lunch rice cereal with it instead of formula and he loved it!

We used the nubby cups too. They worked really well for Katelyn. After she started to chew those up and break them we switched to gerber sip and smile and still uses them although she can do straws now...she still tips the cups way too much! And I don't give her juice at all because she's never ever liked it. She won't drink anything but plain milk.

I only give Tiffany water. I never give her juice, it is just empty calories. And I figure who would want to drink water after having juice!!! So, for now only water. She doesn't know that she is missing anything yet. So don't worry juice is not necessary. (Spelling???lol)

It's up to you of course, but it's not an essential. My two older kids were never given juice at that age, and are great water drinkers now. My almost two year old son is still not allowed juice or other sugary drinks, and loves his water. It's much better for their teeth, too.

izzy gets one sippy cup (we use the gerber ones with the soft spout) of either juice or water a day. once it's gone, it's gone. that is, until daddy comes home and she sees his water bottle. that girl can DOWN some water, straight out of the bottle, without spilling. amazes me to no end. i think she actually prefers the water over the juice. it will take her all day to drink the cup of juice, but that water is gone within 10 minutes.

i'd hold off on the juice for now, GL
