Default question/advice on promotion party

Hi all! My husband just found out he's promoted to master sergeant, but doesn't "pin" it on until June 08. He says it is tradition to celebrate and party now, as opposed to waiting until he actually gets the full pay, rank and benefits of master sergeant. I think having a party now is like counting all the chicks before they're hatched. Am i wrong?

Welcome to the board!

Congrats to DH for his promotion and to you for supporting him each step of the way! Tell DH he's a hero to all of us.

In answer to your question: I have no idea. Am hoping a friend that is ''in the know'' will respond to help you.

i live in an airforce town (but dh is an army vet). we always did a dinner when he found out the news -- might be the 2 of us or a huge family thing. then we'd have a party on the "pin" day. it would be like having a graduatioin party the first day of senior year, just doesnt seem right. seems to me DH just wants to celebrate -- which is fine, but i would do something small then the BIG party the day of. besides, in the military, anything can happen.

Promotion parties are usually held the day of the pinning, but there is nothing wrong with doing a small celebration now.....just for you guys and few friends or family...Promotion parties tend to be a pretty big affair in the Army. Some of the most fun and successful ones we've been to over the years were just big ole bbq's or pizza and beer......and usually a cake..... HTH
