Default Questions we hope our new buddy neuman will address inside

A big welcome to our forum to neuman! I'm sure you have realized already that we have big hopes for you. As you can tell, we are loyal and avid CVS shoppers/fans who try our best to work within the system and the law to get the best deals for our families. You can see that we want to do what is right and have the same done to us while shopping. We also would like to avoid or lessen the problems encountered at the registers both for our own sake and for the cashiers who may feel pressured when problems arise and their 'line is forming'. (I know I want to make it as easy as possible for my checkouts so that no one dreads my experience; I have been told that I'm a good training experience for the newer cashier's, though, as long as there is someone nearby to assist them if neeeded. )

I know you've read with interest some of the current issues we, as your representative customers, are facing at the stores. I hope others will post specific questions and issues that you may have easy answers/solutions for or can research. That would be so helpful and appreciated by all. (You've seen how earnestly we try to figure it out ourselves by reading the posts!)

Along with my hope that help is on the way (in your form), I am curious, too, and hope you don't mind sharing some background with us.

How did you find our forum initially and do you read also other shopping forums? What do you do with the information you find here? What do you (in the guise of CVS Corporation) think about our forum, deal analysis, and shared information?

I would like to know if my impression is correct about something and also give my (a many decades long, loyal CVS shopper's) opinion about the new extra bucks system. As a whole, I do like the idea of printing the extra bucks immediately and with the deal/offer information right on the coupon and with the tracking information at the bottom of every receipt. This makes my own personal tracking so much easier. However, my joy in this is very diminished by the fact that these coupons do not seem to 'work' once a number of them are in hand and also do not always print out as promised. Even more distressing is the way CVS Corporation has abdicated it's role in addressing and correcting these problems. I am specifically speaking about the procedure to correct any printing failures/errors which now falls to the stores. The stores do not know what to do (the fact that they should does not negate the fact that many do not); sometimes they (apparently) do not care to do what is right to do. Now it has been said that there is no way the Corporate office can correct the problems that have occurred (printing ECBs) at the stores. My personal feeling is that the buck does not stop at the store level, it stops at the Corporate level when addressing customer complaints, concerns, and failure to honor what is advertised. (And, yes, I do feel that if I am supposed to receive an ECB and it does not print, that is false advertising as defined by consumer protection laws.)

My impression is that CVS had so many problems with the older ECBs printing that it took too much time and personnel to correct the accounts. They have therefore decided, in a misguided cost-saving effort, to abdicate that role rather than continue to hire either more Customer Service Representatives to handle the issues or computer programmers to get the system to work correctly. Am I correct?

Now, for the big questions: Is there a ten ECB coupon limit? If so, why is there a limit, why do they keep printing when the limit is reached (and then, not only beep/not work, but give an inapplicable message that it is the wrong ECB card) and what is the exact method that they go in and out of 'active vs. beeping/not valid for card scanned' status? How are the older type ECBs figured into this limit? And, finally, can we expect a complete resolution to this particular issue in the near (days or weeks, not months) future?

Thank you for identifying yourself in our forum. I hope you will be able to answer my questions. If not, please at least post that you read my post after you do.

I suspect that some of the answers are only known for certain by the programmers that made the rules.....

Some information that might help. These two issues have been flagged as causing some confusion.
ExtraCare coupons:
-Appear at the end of customer’s receipt
-Based on customer’s prior purchases and current marketing campaigns
-Usually linked to specific brand, category of products, or purchase amount:
“$2 Off Any Neutrogena Product”, “$1 Off Any Photo Processing”, “$4 Off $20 Purchase”

Instant Extra Bucks:
-Also appear at the end of customer’s receipt
-Only received after a qualifying purchase is made
-Are advertised in the weekly circular
-Will designate qualifying product purchased: “$4.00 Extra Bucks for Maybelline Purchase”

I think I am speaking for most of us here, except maybe a few newbies. No confusion whatsoever on these issues.

Agreed. Although we had wondered what generated the product-specific coupons--specifically whether they were generated based on the tracking of past purchases which is confirmed now.

After sending some issues up and researching them, one of the main things we are seeing is the Extracare cards are being scanned at the wrong time. To rule out some issues. It is imperetitive that the cashier scan the card at the begining of the transaction. This has been tested at stores and continues to be monitored. The cashiers should be trained on this, but since i dont work for a store I dont know their specific training process.

Would you please identify what issues are caused by scanning later than 'first'? We do know that this does affect the pricing listed on the receipt and the fact that the savings is lumped together at the bottom in these instances. Personally, that's not much of an 'issue' to me and one I can definitely live with. Thanks for your help!
