Default Really silly questions

Ok I have a really silly question to the US members.

In movies I always see the delivery boy throws the newspapers into the gardens. Does that actually happen?

I also noticed that you all seem have mail boxes at the end of your driveways. Do you not have letter boxes in your front doors?

Told you it was a silly question! If anyone wants to ask a Brit question i'd be happy to answer.

Where I live in Florida, and where I lived in Ohio, we have mailboxes at the end of our driveways, the mailman puts the mail in the box from his car. If there is a package that does not fit then he will bring it up to the door. Where I live now, if you bother to subscribe to the newspaper they just leave it at the end of your driveway. (which in my case is about 180 feet from my front door!!!) In Ohio the newspaper had its own box under the mailbox.
In big cities where there are a lot of houses very very close together they sometimes still have the box on the door, or a slat in the door. But in suburbs and country settings that would take too long to deliver on foot!

Here in Wisconsin we have mail boxes at the end of our drive way too. And if you subscribe to a paper they put it in a seperate box near or under your regular mail box.

Funny, but valid question!

Thankyou for the answers! I'm sure I think too much.

Here we all have letterbox in our door for the mail and newspapers (if you get one)

They used to have a milkman......I don't think they do that anymore though.

My newspaper is left in front of my door. I live in an apartment and our mailboxes are locked and not near our doors at all.

In MI where my parents live their mailbox is at the end of the driveway and the newspaper now has a box under the mail box but used to be thrown on the driveway or anywhere near the driveway...sometimes if you had a nice paper boy (or girl) they'd take it and leave it on your porch.

The only ones I know of here who deliver milk is Oberweiss (sp?) and they charge an arm and a leg. I could drive to the store and back 10 times and still not waste enough gas for the trip to not be worth it!

And here we usually have mailboxes on our doors.

Here in Canada some ppl have slots in their doors; some have metal/wooden mail boxes attached to the house beside the doors; if you live rurally you likely have a mailbox at the end of your driveway...also in some areas rurally or in town there will be one mailbox units that houses multiple boxes that ppl have keys for..my parents live in a cul-de-sac, in town and they have a wooden box attached outside the house for papers etc but they also have to go to the multi-letter box which is on the side of road to get their mail...

As far as milkmen go...I am sure there are some areas that still have milk delivery but I don't think we have any in our community!!

I am trying to think of some questions to volley back to you Jo...just give me some time..I'm working on it!!

Ok I have another question. School buses - Do you get those free and do you have to live a certain distance from the school?

In the UK you have to live 3 miles from the school before they let you have transport and if you choose to go to a school further away then your catchment area school you have to pay.
