Default recovering from c-section question

I have had two c-sections before, but they were 13 and 6 years ago, and for some reason, I just can't remember this.... how long til you are able to drive and how long til you are able to walk around (like, go grocery shopping, walk around the mall, etc.) I am sceduled for one on the 15th of this month, and have a big home-school event one week later - it is a harvest festival and I am willing if i will be OK to walk around with the kids there. I know everyone recovers differently, but what is average??

It usually is around 2-4 weeks but it is up to your doc...how did the cut you? Bleeding..complications...Personally I would see how you feel...but I don't think I would drive. Good Luck!

I have two bikini-cut scars from the previous - my DR is going to try to use the last one Ihad done. I don't plan on driving, but do want to go with the event with the kids. It is a huge around here, with over a hundred families. At least my husband would be here to drive.

For me it was 2 weeks with all three, but with the last, the doc told me as soon as I was off the pain meds, drive around the block, and if it didn't hurt to push the pedals, I was fine, so I was driving the day after I got home from the hospital... it's all up to how you feel... good luck honey!

Good luck to you!!!!
I wasn't told not to drive!!!!! Yikes!!! I think it was about a week before I did, just cuz they held me hostage in the hospital for 3 days or so......
But, I think as long as you feel up to it, and try to get rest before and after, you should be fine!!!!

I have a question about a C-section too. I am going to have my first one in two weeks and plan to breastfeed so I was wondering what type of pain meds can you take to deal with the pain of the surgery while breastfeeding? Are they the same as I am allowed to take now (Tylenol) or can they give me something a little stronger?

I can't remember exactly what they gave me for my last c-secyopn, but I also breast-fed, and the docs knew I was, so whatever they prescribed was safe. I think it was either tylenol with codeine, or vicadine. Just be sure your DR knows about your intent to breast-feed. Val here probably knows as well.

my last c section was 8 years ago and it was the general rule (in the UK) not to do any heavy lifting or long distance walking for 6 weeks and no driving for 4 weeks, light housework can be done after 2 weeks, but as i said that was 8 years ago... that was my 5 th c section, my first was 17 years ago and they kept you in hospital for 5 days then, and not you not to do ANYTHING for 6 weeks, other than look after yourself and the baby haha x

I was very light duty for around 1.5 to 2 wks and they wouldn't let me drive til after 3 wks. But after the first week I felt fine, just didn't over do it... I was told it just depends on how they cut you, and how quickly you heal. Outside I was cut vertical but inside horizontal.
Good luck & Take it easy!!
