Default Refinishing wood cabinets ... ideas?

We found that Zip Strip works really well to remove old finishing on hard woods. You paint it on the surface of the wood, let sit for ten minutes or so, then scrape it off. After getting it down to the where you can see the wood pattern, you use steel wool to smooth it out. Then we wash it, let the surface dry, then paint several coats of Sea Finn oil on the top for a long lasting natural finish.

Some of our woodwork was fake wood patterning on a fiberwood panel. It was painted with an oil based paint that was very dark and made everything gloomy. In order for the latex paint to cover it, we needed to use Kill Z as a primer on top of the old finish. Now everything is painted with a creamy white. I love it.

My sister, a teacher, just spent her entire summer vacation redoing her kitchen cabinets. I have not yet seen them (she is 5 hours away), but I have heard the process all summer long.
