Question Reusing yarn?

Does anyone reuse yarn to save money? I've had great luck with unravelling sweaters, and I was wondering if anyone else did this.

Do you reuse it from your current projects or from exisiting sweaters and items you purchased elsewhere?

Usually it is from current projects that I have taken too long to complete, like a jumper for the boys and the size will no longer fit them.

I have been wanting to do this, and have been tempted to pick up wool sweaters a couple of times when I saw one at the thrift store that would be just perfect. But I have to work through a little more of my 'to do' craft stack before I get stuff for a new project! It sure does appeal to my frugal and environmentally careful side, though. Glad you did a blog post on it!

I do it often. I used to have a huge selection of yarn odds and ends~I made 2 blankets for my sisters and away half of it went! I 'll start a pattern with some of my yarn and it'll turn out not like I want it to and I'll just unravel (or frog) it and wind the yarn back into a ball to use at a later time. The vast majority of my yarn were gifts and yard sale finds.

I have unravelled a few things, and when I try to re- knit it it doesn't knit up as nicely as it did the first time. It isn't as neat.
Is there something that I'm doing wrong? Should I leave it in a ball for a while to straighten it out? Not sure...
