Default RS Lesson 17: The Law of Chastity

Hi there,
Are any of you ladies teaching this lesson too.
I have been asked to teach it as our teacher just had her baby girl.
I wondered if anyone knew where I could find a particular quote. I went to the RS Open House in Salt Lake, September 2004 and the President's message was left out and instead they invited a man from LDS Family Services to talk about the problems of Pornography, he spoke of how we must not be complacent as women thinking that pornography addiction is just a man thing, that women (even though men are in the majority) sometimes have these problems too.
Does anyone know where I could find out this ??

Thanks

Not sure, but it makes sense that woman are just as prone to such things as men. I just think that the woman who have the serious problems are more on the recieving end. They are the ones who are promiscuous, the ones appearing on stage in the strip clubs, the films, the magazines, and if their issues are not that severe, and they are family women, they probably struggle with infedelity issues. Lust is a common problem of all mankind, that means woman too! Check out this site http://www.blazinggrace.org/pornstatistics.htm. Be careful though I had a disgusting pop up in my face when I tried to go to this site, also be very careful of the search words you use! Also check out the triple x church. Both of these sites are to help people overcome these horrible and life threatening addictions. This kind of addiction is the same as any other and no less dangerous than heroin or crack cocaine. Be careful as you research this stuff. You might just want to settle knowing sin in any form is common to all mankind and Jesus is the only cure! God bless you.

Welcome to the board, IluvJesus!

I'm hope these might be helpful.

The Seventh of the Ten Commandments, which God spoke in the long ago, "Thou shalt not commit adultery" Exodus 20:14.

This commandment presents a particularly special challenge to teenagers during the difficult times you can face as you struggle with who you are, and how to develop relationships with others. Basically, it calls for honesty and loyalty in all relationships, whether the same or opposite sex is involved, and regardless of whether having sex is an issue.

The Lord Jesus had much to say about adultery. He went so far as to say that even the very thought of adultery is sin. The Bible teaches us that those who practice this and other types of immorality will surely come under the judgment of God. "Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, no idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God." (I Corinthians 6:9-10)

"Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." (Galatians 6:7)

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (I John 1:9)

Thank you so much sisters - I found a link for some statistics via President Hinckley's talk on Pornography to the Priesthood.
I'm just hoping the sisters are opne about all this on Sunday instead of that it'll never happen to me attitude that we sometimes find ourselves having.
You have been a great help so thanks again !

Default I'm teaching that lesson too

I am also teaching that lesson- i was a little nervous to teach that topic at first, but the more i read the lesson the more excited i got to teach, i have been inspired personally by this lesson and i hope that others will be too. I am aslo quoting some of P. Hinckley's "A tragic evil among us" talk, mostly the stats- those were from 2003, i am assuming the stats are even worse today.

i also found a list of websites to get involved in the fight for decency (citizens against pornography) i thought if everyone could take a stand, we can make a difference. i know i personally feel overwhelmed, like there is nothing i can do- because it is such a epidemic- but if we band together we can make a difference, i want the sisters to feel that.

i found a video at deseret book "pornography, the great lie", i am picking it up tomorrow i might use some or all of it as a suupement to the lesson, or i will just have it on the table for display, ive heard it is really good. i am also going to have the FHE resouce book on the table- hopefully having these things out will let people know that there are many recources given to us to fight the plague of pornography. (there is also a video "morality for youth" that is in the church library i will have this out too) im also going to have my laptop on the table with the word CHASTITY written really big.

most of my lesson is focused on pornography and safeguarding our children (the last 2 sections in the chapter.

hope this helps- id be interested to know what the focus of your lesson is, or if you have any good ideas on this subject thanks

Hey Andrea,
I too have felt strongly impressed to focus on the later part of the lesson, on pornography, safeguarding children and immodesty.
I am using the stats from President Hinckley's talk too - I felt too scared to search for any myself that may be more recent but it can be safely assumed as you said that things have gotten worse.
I am displaying FTSOY and handing out the FTSOY mini cards for sisters to always carry in their purse/bag.
I am also displaying the LDS Family Services Addiction Recovery Program "A Guide to Addiction, Recovery and Helaing" which is available via Distribution Services, and the smaller pamphlet "Let Virtue Garnish thy thoughts" from which I am using some quotes especially the part called "Helping Others" which focusses on what to do if you learn that a family member or friend is involved with pornography.
I am also using a quote from Sister Wendy L. Watson from her talk "For Such a Time as This" from the 2007 BYU Women's Conference:
"Perhaps an early clue that there is something not quite right in our lives is if we are feeling a little too comfortable with the world if we are looking and acting a little too much like women of the world."
I hope this helps ! I love the idea of the laptop by the way (if only I could find one ), My husband is teaching the same lesson inPriesthood and is using similar talks and resources, I think he is showing President Hinckley's talk from the dvd we have too.
It would be great to hear how your lesson goes and de-brief.
