If you've had the news on or even just turned on your computer in the last couple of days, you've probably seen coverage of the bombing/fighting in Georgia by the Russians. It all seems so unexpected to me, even though it might not have been.
My brother is in Georgia right now. He is a Peace Corp Volunteer, and he left the States in June and was stationed in Georgia, 7 miles outside of where the first bombs were dropped a few days ago. He and the other volunteers were immediately evacuated (and told almost nothing of what was going on) and were transferred to a resort in the mountains-- fine living for Georgia! I believe he has the option to come home for a short time, but he isn't the kind of guy to "quit" and will probably take the option to be restationed somewhere else! I know he was sad and lonely over there to begin with, but I just know he won't come home.
Anyway, as of yesterday the death toll was predicted to be close to 1500, many of which are civilians. There is lots of news coverage out there, but this is the latest article that was on Yahoo.
