school shopping?
Erin goes to school in 41 days!!! She is sooo excited, she will be in Pre-K.
It might sound like a silly question, but I don't want to forget anything. what do you all buy your kids for school shopping? Crayons, glue, what else does a 4 year old need? What about clothes? Do you have a list you go off of?

When I directed a preschool, we always wanted 4 year olds to have a seasonally appropriate change of clothes in case of spills, accidents, and so on. Those we kept in labeled ziploc bags in the classroom.
Depends on what the school says she needs for school, but most preschools keep ample supplies of crayons, washable markers, and chubby pencils on hand. Some schools require that you purchase the tote bag with their emblem and put the child's name on it, others allow you to send a small back pack or tote bag.
You should keep some art supplies and writing tools around the house in case she wants to extend what she did in the classroom at home.
And as for clothing - ACTIVE clothing, please. You might have some special occasions, but for the most part, preschoolers are moving, playing, inside and out, and you don't want to worry about fussy dresses and good shoes. Lots of little girls have playclothes which are very feminine, or which their moms can decorate with iron on transfers, glitter writing, etc.
With the exception of less expensive studs or posts for pierced ears, leave the jewelry at home.

My kids' school gives a list of required items for all classes K-Prep thru 5th grade. Helps keep the confusion down but then when the stores set aside a few aisles for these items and usually at below clearance prices throughout July and August. Getting through those aisles with 3 kids and 4000 other busy parents and cranky kids is a nightmare. I am glad I already am done with it. All my school age boys need is clothing items. And I plan to hit the local consignment store hard beteween now and Christmas for all my kids clothing needs besides skivies and socks.
I'll have a Kindergartener and a 2nd grader in a month! August 27th can't come soon enough some days!

Lol I agree, we start August 27 here as well and I cannot wait!!! Jaycob will be a 2nd grader. The school sends us a detailed list of things they will need to have and he has to wear uniforms so we dont get to pick out cool kid clothes.

When we did the preschool life, they gave us a list of school supplies. Sometimes it tends to be less obvious things like baggies, paper towels, hand wipes, lysol spray, and brown paper bags. This was for a public school. So check with the school and get a supply list. Sometimes they are posted at Wal-mart in the entrance.
As for clothes, don't send them in anything you care about. Consignment stores and wal-mart specials are great for this. The kids do a lot of art projects which translates to a lot of stains. Although Shout works great on most, some colors just don't come out for some reason. Its hard enough to see a $3 t-shirt ruined, a more expensive one really gets annoying!!!
Good luck!! Don't forget to use the camera on the first day!!! You will always want to remember these days.

Our district gives us a list of what each child needs as well as a classroom wish list (boxes of tissues, hand sanitizer, etc.). I never buy anything other than their clothes, shoes & shool bag before Parent's Night (when we get that list).
HTH and have TONS of FUN in school Erin! My Erin will be in 5th grade this year!

Goodness it sounds like you need to buy lots of stuff! In the UK you only have to supply their uniform (white polo shirt and grey trousers/skirt for our school) All pens, pencils, books, etc is supplied and they prefer the little ones don't bring their own to stop confusion.

We just did this!
Yesterday I took my little girl school shopping. Her school had a whole list of stuff we had to buy, it was like $50 bucks! The kids share these supplies year round, I suppose, which is truly strange to me, but ok.
I also got her a bunch of adorable new clothes
I'm loving the government for my stimulus bonus!!!

I worked in a Laboratory Preschool so i talked to my teacher about this.
She told me that most all preschools have there own supplies. But they do usually give you a list of things your child might need.
I would strongly suggest one set of clothing *just in case* and always take a coat because if they go outside you never know what the weather will do.
number one thing is LABEL THEM WITH CHILDS NAME.
We had several items that were left because we didn't know who it belong'd to.
Hope this helps.

our school provides a list, or you can just by a package of supplys from them, I find that the easiest thing to do! And consignment stores are a great place for school clothes
