Default School Supplies drive for homeless kids

PROJECT: BACK TO SCHOOL Aims to Provide School Supplies
for NYC’s 14,000 Homeless Kids
Coalition for the Homeless partners with Capital One and CW11
to help the city’s most vulnerable get ready for the classroom

New York City — Today the Coalition for the Homeless launched a new campaign, PROJECT: BACK TO SCHOOL, to help get New York City’s 14,000 homeless children the supplies they need to succeed in school.

From September 3rd through September 22nd, the Coalition, in conjunction with CW11 and Capital One Bank, will collect school supplies for New York’s most vulnerable students, all of which will be distributed among New York City’s family homeless shelters.

“One in fifty New York children experienced homelessness last year. Just arriving at the first day of school is challenging for these kids,” explained Mary Brosnahan, Executive Director of the Coalition for the Homeless. “This drive for school supplies lets New Yorkers support homeless children so they can join other New York children in heading off to school this fall.”

Collection sites include fifteen Manhattan and seven Bronx Capital One bank locations, as well as the Coalition for the Homeless office in Lower Manhattan. New Yorkers who wish to donate can find a participating Capital One bank, a list of suggested school supplies and further campaign details at www.coalitionforthehomeless.org or through the PROJECT: BACK TO SCHOOL hotline, 212-776-2051.

“Unfortunately, children are the fastest growing segment of New York City’s homeless population, and these children need help from our community more than ever. As New York families shop for school supplies this fall, this drive gives them the opportunity to pick up a little extra and give to homeless New York children who want to show up prepared when school opens this fall,” concluded Carlos Austin, Local Production & Community Affairs Director for CW 11.

Appreciate you sharing this need.

We also have a similar program locally that is very important for those children going back to school.
