Default Service Dog may go to school with deaf student

This really ticks me off.

The school district would rather spend thousands of dollars prohibiting a student from bringing a service dog to school than make accomodations for the dog to accompany him. The excuse? Well, our other deaf students don't have dogs.

The problem is that if the dog is not utilized on a consistent basis, his skills will diminish. Then he's just a pet.

Would this school district tell a blind student "you don't need a dog, use a cane"? Really, this is such bureaucratic nonsense.

I am glad that he has good parents...and hope they win there case. I find it absolutley absurd that they won't allow a much needed service do into a school.

I'm thinking major lawsuit if the district won't allow that service dog into the school.

Think about it: even service dogs are allowed in restaurants, hospitals, the malls. It is a law.

Great! I am glad a state official ruled on Monday that the district had violated the state’s Human Rights Law. But $150 million, thats seems a bit over the top to me....Then again I am not there, i would be a very upset mom.

Being a hearing impaired person myself, it brings me great joy to hear that he won his case!

Service dogs are wonderful. I hope that one day all of those kids actually do have one. They save lives! How could anyone not want them around?
