[MayaWorks]

MayaWorks is a nonprofit Fair Trade organization working to develop sustainable markets for unique handicrafts created by eight Maya partner artisan groups in Guatemala. MayaWorks pays artisans fair wages, funds training and scholarship programs and provides microcredit to over 250 artisans and their families. Fair wages means artisans can better support their families and overcome obstacles such as poverty and illiteracy. MayaWorks carries a wide selection of beautiful and affordable products from vibrant textiles and home accents to bags and accessories, holiday gifts, jewelry and children's items.

MayaWorks has found that adoptive families benefit from integrating aspects of their child’s birth country into their lives. By doing so, adopted children can better understand their background and maintain an important connection with their culture. Adoptive parents can also feel a stronger relationship with their child’s birth country. Adoptive mother Karen Taber says “It’s a great way to give back to the country that gave us everything. Our kids, our family… everything.”
