Default Sick again!!!!!! (Long--sorry) Any adviced?!

Poor Tiffany is sick. She has actually been sick off and on for over a month now........I am ready to strangle the dr.!!!!
It started out on October. 27th with an ear infection. Pretty bad, she wouldn't lay down, had me up all night, she cried and cried. I felt so bad for her. Well, the pedi said it was bacterial, and gave her an Antibiotic. (I gave it to her, even though I try to avoid any meds if at all possible--cuz I knew that she needed it and I obviously wanted her to get better!)
Well, after a day of taking it she started to improve, and actually sleep through the night. Something that she hasn't done much of since labor day weekend when we flew to Ohio and back. (That is when I think all of this started) Anyway.....after we finished the antibiotic, she was ok for maybe 2 days and then she started tugging on her ear and walking with her head to the side a lot, so I assumed that the ear had just gotten infected again........I took her back to the pedi.....in the mean time she got a rash across her chest. He said nope it isn't the same thing. It is a virus. Just wait it out. Her throat is red, her ear is red, and she has the rash and won't sleep good, but wait it out. Nothing you can do. So I went home and did just that. Well the rash went away after several more days and the throat and ear seemed to improve although she was still waking 2 - 4 times a night and then screaming bloody murder till I show up. So then on the day before Thanksgiving she gets this really gross looking rash on her girly parts.......I called the pedi they say oh it will go away. So on Friday it is worse...it looks like she was attacked be fireants!
So I took her in, and he says it is yeast or fungal and gives me Nystatin with a steroid for it. And she slept through the night!!!!!!
Well, then after 3 days of sleeping great and seeming to be on the mend finally she now has developed a fever. 101.8 during the afternoon, and then 103.2 in the early eveing (and that was with Tylenol!!!) So now I am freaked out. What if it spikes in the middle of the night???????? What if she has problems while she is sleeping and dosen't wake up to cry??? And what do you think is wrong with her???????????????????? Soes this really sound like another seperate virus???????How many viruses can there be in one town over the course of the month. I am really starting to worry about her.
I am going to demand a strep test. I am just so tired of her not feeling well.
Sorry so long!!!

If her fever is that high, it might be a good idea for you to take her into the ER. You'd definitely have peace of mind that she was at least being monitored and in a place that can help her best. Otherwise, if you have a recliner, I'd sleep there with her on your chest or sleeping next to you in it. That way, you can be right with her. Try to let her sit with a cool washcloth and let her sit in a lukewarm bath to get the fever down, and rotate between Motrin and Tylenol (that's what my best friend says to do, and she's a doctor). Just pump her with as many clear liquids as she will take (preferably pedialite) to help it pass through her system. But, like I said, I'd just take her to ER to ease your mind and let them get the fever down.

Try Motrin. She can have both Tylenol and Motrin at the same time. I've noticed that Motrin is way better for bringing down a fever. Also Nevy's Ped. said after 12 months a fever should be at least 104F to be an emergency unless she is acting "off" then I need to bring her in right away. I would guess that the diaper rash was caused by the anti-b the Dr. gave her for the ear infection. As for the fever it could just be the tail end of whatever she had. I hope she feels better soon

If it is a virus, remember that a fever it natures way of killing the virus. By constantly lowering the fever you might just be prolonging the illness. It might be something different though. Does she have her 2 year molars through yet? Libby gets a temperature and gets grizzly on the days her have a bit of a spurt and hurt her.

When Ellamae had an ear infection the dr said that at her age it was better to give an antibiotic regardless of if they thought it was a virus or bacteria. I'm not sure at what age he starts letting them go without for a virus.

I have heard that Motrin (ibuprofen) works better for lowering a fever and you can always alternate with Tylenol (acetaminophen). 3 hours do Motrin, then 3 hours do Tylenol, then 3 hours do Motrin, then 3 hours do Tylenol, you get the picture. You don't need to give her any unless it is above 102 (I think) b/c fevers are the bodies natural way of fighting an illness. I don't have my sheet on the dose for age/weight with me. But I got the sheet from the ER so you could call and ask. If the fever gets really high and you give Motrin and it doesn't go down after 30 min I believe you can repeat the dose. Just call the ER or you doctor for dose recommedations.

When Ellamae was teething her molars she had a fever of 102-103.7, for 3 days and that was with Motrin and Tylenol!

Good Luck

I hope she starts feeling better soon. Sometimes that's how it goes...one thing after another. It really sucks, but you'll get through it.

Did he say how bad her ears looked? Were they just red and a little swollen or were they really yucky? When is the last time he looked in her ears, it never hurts to have a follow up appointment to make sure the ears are improving or healed. Because her body has been trying to fight off a virus it is probably making her immune system vulnerable and she is picking up a ton of other crap!
