Hey guys. The marketing company I work for recently started a campaign in conjunction with The Humane Society, Maddie's Fund and the Ad Council that is designed to change the image of the shelter animal. Annually about 1/3 of the animals who go into shelters are Euthanized even though these cats and dogs are healthy and would make excellent pets.

I took in a shelter dog in July and she has turned out to be one of the best dogs I have ever had. She was one of the 'ugly' dogs in the shelter and they were worried she would not be adopted since she was not cute. But she seems to know that we saved her and she is perfect for us and our children.

I'm 100% a shelter pet person. Both my pets are from shelters, and I can't imagine myself getting a pet any other way. I get the benefit of all the knowledge of the shelter staff's interaction with my future pet, and at such a smaller price than I would from a breeder.

All the animals I have are from the Shelter. It makes me sad that they Euthanize healthy animals

Adopting shelter animals as pets is such a great thing to do! On the chicken soup for the pet lover's soul website there was an article mentioning that every October is Adopt a Shelter Dog month - I never knew there was such a thing till I read that article but I think it is great! It is a great way to help animals in need.
