Sicky
So after her red ear drama(suspected bug bite and she then irratated it) she has a blazing cold. How the heck do you get a cold in the summer? Ughh!
Are there any safe cold meds for 8 month olds? We've been unsuccessfully trying to use Little Noses(saline drops) for her congestion- but, uhmm, it takes us BOTH holding her down while she screams like she's being beat!
She's eting less- but still some. She's refusing her meals(solids) but she'll eat fruits- so she's had a fruit cup and some blueberries today along with a yogurt this morning.
Also, before I tried to use the saline drops I noticed a bit of blood in her snot(TMI)- normal?
So if there is anything SAFE that the FDA hasn't banned- please point me in the right direction!

I am sure a ton of people will disagree with me, but I try not to give my kids any cold meds at all. I just find it way too frustrating to fight with a sick baby for 15 minutes to get at least a half a dose of dimetap or benedryl down them only to have it ultimately not work (dimetap) or make the lethargic (benedryl). But...I very rarely take cold medicine myself, so that probably contributes to my attitude .
That being said, if you still want to try some, most pedis won't give you a dosage amount for a cough syrup, but if you call your drs office the nurse can usually calculate the proper amount of dimetap for her based on her weight at her last appt. When thay are as little as she is, you almost have to ask the pedi because practically everything (that actually contains medicine) is labeled "24 months and under--consult a physician"
Good luck, I hope she gets to feeling better real soon!

i believe all cold meds for children under 2 years were deemed "unsafe" by the fda. izzy's only had one cold, and tbh - i gave up on that sucker thing. the snot will come out when it wants to come out then, with a quick wipe of a tissue, it's gone. i wouldn't worry about a bit of blood, especially since it was when you weren't using the saline.
hope it passes soon!

A little blood is probably just from an irritated nose. Ellamae doesn't mind the saline drops but she hates the nasal aspirator! Hope she feels better soon.

Germs don't take a vacation, even in the summer!
So sorry she has been ill.
One easy way to help contain those little arms and legs......
place a blanket on the floor, and make it into a game
to roll her like a jelly roll w/ her head sticking out, arms
and legs straight.
Then, her head is out to give the nose drops. Makes it easier.
Unroll her, and give her a lot of hugs.
Then, make Daddy roll-up in the blanket like a jelly roll!

Take a steamy shower and let her sit in the bathroom. The air will act just like the saline drops. When you get out, suck her nose the best you can.
Humidifier, or even those plug in vaporizer things they have now are great.
Johnson and Johnson's menthol bath....i live off it when they are sick
No meds for colds are safe for under 2. Tylenol colds I used on Jae all the time (was OK then...) I would still cut the dose in half tho. She would get a 1/2 teaspoon of that stuff.

honestly... the saline solution and nose aspirator work the best. try the johnson's vapor bath... Could she be teething? Emma gets congested and feverish when she's getting a tooth.
