Exclamation Signs of Infant reflux (GERD)

The most common question I am asked is "How do I know its reflux and not just plain old colic?"

The following are signs of reflux. If your child is showing symptoms of reflux please bring your concerns up to your child's pediatrician. Reflux is just as painful to babies as it is for adults. So please don't hesitate to ask your child's Doctor questions.

*Sudden or inconsolable crying
*Severe pain
*Arching of back during feedings
*Excessive spitting up or vomiting
*Vomiting hours after eating
*Extremely forceful vomiting (out of nose ect.)
*Erratic feeding patterns such as refusing food or constant eating/drinking
*Slow weight gain/Fast weight gain
*Poor sleeping habits
*Gagging or choking
*Frequent burping or hiccuping
*Difficult or noisy swallowing
*Excessive drooling

**Some may also have....

*Chronic coughing
*Frequent red or sore throat
*Frequent ear infections
*Respiratory problems including wheezing, labored breathing, asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia and apnea-(child may become "blue" or stop breathing for a SHORT period of time. Please seek medical attention if this happens).

***Some of the following symptoms may also be associated with other problems which is why it is VERY important to bring this up to your child's Doctor.

If you have any questions please feel free to Pm me or post a question in this thread.

God bless your heart Jen... that's Damian to a tee right there. It took so much for me to get help for him, it just makes me feel vindicated to see those things on the list -- particularly the fast weight gain. (Can you tell I'm mad at my doctor for brushing it off? lol)

A high-pitched, squeaky gasp/swallow while nursing is one behavior I knew must be from the reflux, but wasn't certain about until you posted "noisy swallowing" in this list. Have you noticed any finer details (like said squeaky sounds lol) in Nevy's behavior that you'd associate with the reflux?

She would have a really squeaky voice first thing in the morning ! She also made a lot of "odd" sounds while drinking. It's hard to explain but I know what your talking about.
