Default Simple Nutrition Secrets

Here's a CNN article on anti-aging nutrition secrets.

http://www.cnn.com/HEALTH/diet.fitne...ing.nutrition/

It seems that a lot of nutrition secrets have to do with eating more fruits and vegetables.

What simple nutrition secrets have you learned that you would recommend to others, and why?

I'm positive this is not the answer you are looking for, but I can't help myself. My mother ate more fruits and vegetables than anyone I've ever met. Our dinner plates always had a green salad plus two more vegetables or fruits on it. She ate extremely healthy, and got all her vitamins and anti-oxidants. She died suddenly of cancer at 54. So the moral of the story is that I think she should have eaten some french fries and cookies once in a while.

In case you think I'm a horrible, irreverant daughter, my mother had a great sense of humor and I'm sure she would agree. : )

I guess the thing is, we can help ourselves by being healthy and fit, but ultimately we are all going to die eventually, so we must remember to treat ourselves too.

But as for the fruit and veg, this is really not news. I think that a lot of people choose to forget what a good diet is - it is easier to live in denial!

If you are not sure, then at least go for the "5-a-day" approach, i.e. at least 5 portions of fruit and veg each day, ideally more though.

Oh you are bad . But ther is some wisdom in your facetious comment: too much of a good thing is not always the best way.

Be as close to natural as possible. Avoid processed and junk. Have lots of fruits. They have all the antioxidents you need. Drink a lot of water.

One easy thing I do is buy red grapes instead of the green ones. Red grapes were on the list of top ten best foods for you.

When I was a kid I used to say, "eat right, excercise daily, and die anyway". For many years I ate all kinds of junk. A few years ago my girlfriend convinced me to stop drinking cola for a week and I couldn't believe how much better I felt! I can't say that I have the perfect diet now, but I can say that overall, I feel allot better than I did a few years ago!

The only problem is that's it takes a bit more work, and money, to eat healthy. Especially here in NYC where hotdog carts are every 5 feet!

Eat dishes with lots of garlic or ginger, drink ginger tea. These two are good natural antibiotics which can help cleanse the stomach. My mum read in an email that sometimes food and meals fail to give the needed nutrition or get digested properly because of bad bacteria in the stomach and colon. Drink hot green tea and NEVER cold drinks when or after eating oily/greasy foods. Chew your food well.

Yeah its okay to have french fries or cookies once in a while.

I have learned to eat more fruits and vegetables. Not only is it very healthy, but it also keeps me away from junky foods and thereby I don't gain weight either. I agree with starleads - natural is the way to go. I avoid processed foods.
