i agree completely (although i havent seen the show, but i know if it). it is a shame that society has unrealistic expectations on what "beautiful" is, and young people (boys and girls) are getting a warped sense of how they "should" look.
on a side note: i understand that the "point" of these shows is supposed to be to raise awareness of how drastic the measures to be thin can be, but to someone that is impressionable (young or old, male or female), these shows can be learning tools on HOW to get to the unreasonable (and for some people unhealthy) weights. When i was an early teen i saw a movie on tv about a girl who was bulimic. i had been uncomfortable with my weight for a while and had a tendency to not eat to lose weight (skip meals, take only nibbles when i did eat). after seeing this movie, i LEARNED that you could eat then throw up and in my mind it was the best of both worlds. that lead to an eating disorder that consumed my life for many years. fortunately i never had to go so bad as to be hospitalized (i saw how it tore my parents to pieces and agreed to outpatient therapy). even to this day, my relationship with food is not the healthiest, but it is the best it has ever been. i take responsibility for my actions, the movie didnt "make" me bulimic (i had tendencies towards eating disorders before hand), but it did give me ideas on how to get around being found out. all this from a movie that was supposed to educate the public on eating disorders! i guess what i am saying is that sometimes these shows that are supposed to raise awareness can backfire.
phew...sorry for the novel...
