So sick
James hasn't caught a break since he started daycare. He has had numerous colds, and has had 3 ear infections. He was coughing so bad yesterday that I got a call from daycare about it, so I took him to the doctor. He was dx with a form of RSV. The way the doctor was describing it, it sounded like the adult version of bronchitis. They had James try a nebulizer treatment in the office, and it seemed to help him breath better. So we were sent home with one to use.
How do you make sure the baby gets all of the treatment? He keeps pulling his head all around and I feel like he is not getting the full treatment.
Thanks!

No real suggestions sorry Lindsay..but I hope that he feels better soon!!! It is hard when they get introduced to so many germs etc in daycare/school, isn't it? You just do your best to keep him healthy and help him feel better when he is sick...hope somebody on here has a helpful hint for the treatment!!

I know when I worked at daycare some kids had nebs and they would wear masks, however at his age he would most likely just pull it off, other than that all I have ever seen done was to direct the mist as best as possible at the face so it gets into the lungs, try doing the treatment in a high chair or something where he is restrained. I hope your little guy feels better soon!

the preemies at work get nebs a good bit, but they dont fight much. usually they are on their tummies with their head turned to the side, but i dont think james would go for that! can you or DH hold him in your lap while the other directs the treatment to his face? IDK...good luck!

I give Kaydee hers (she gets them 5x's a day) while she is eating in her high chair. I hold the tube (no mask on) under her while she eats...since while eating you take big deep breaths i know she is getting a lot of it in.

You can only do what you can do. When Emma needs them, I just wait until she's asleep to give them to her because the noise of the machine freaks her out. But, if she starts screaming, she takes deeper breaths and gets more in, which is a sad plus... At least if he's asleep, he won't squirm... Good luck!

when my premie nephew was on daily nebs they said that since they are little you still give them 'more' of the med in the neb and we just had to let him breath it in. They do get enough as lond as you make sure they are getting it towards their face. If he still goes in a swing (not sure) the you can prop the hose in with him next to his face and let him breath it in. or tummy time when you know he isnt going too far

Thanks for the ideas! He is getting better with it. He eats the mask so I know he is getting a lot of it in, and I'm still holding it close. I talked to the teachers at daycare and they told me he sits there like a champ and loves it! I wish he would do that at home. I guess the difference is that I have to give it to him when he gets up and when he gets ready for bed. But it seems to be really helping!
