Cool So, we've hit a bump or two in the road...*updated 9/20*

Just a quick recap: I am 29 and my DH is 28. We have been married 4 years and have been TTC #1 for a year. We went to get checked out at the doctor's on Sept. 3rd. We received my blood work results and everything looks normal. We were still waiting on my pap results and my DH's sperm analysis(SA).

So we receive my results first: Apparently I have "atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance or ASC-US. Seeing as though it was an after hours nurse that gave me the results, she told me not to worry about it and to just come in, in 4 months for another pap. (What? I have different shaped cells, you don't know why, and you don't want me to worry?) I've tried doing a little research, but have not found much info on whether or not this could have anything to do with infertility. I'm going to have to call my doctor's office this week to see if they want to do any other tests on me.

Anyway, for the significant bump in the road: DH received the results of his SA. Apparently, there was no sperm in the sample. Not just low, but none. That could definitely slow us down a bit. We are so glad we went to get checked out, but now what? From what research we did yesterday, the outcome could still be promising though. Our doctor has recommended he be seen by a urologist for further testing. The soonest appointment we could get is the 19th. Even then they told us it would only be a consultation. The waiting game continues...

So, I would absolutely love to hear some stories of any of you that have gone through this. Also, if anyone has some references for information, we would greatly appreciate that as well.

My mom was recently through the 'abnormal cell' issue. She had two paps that came back abnormal, then she had a biopsy and it came back A OK!!!
So try not to worry. I think they are over cautious and when they see ANYTHING suspicious, they automatically take the next step.

I hope your DH can get some answers from a Urologist. The 19th isn't too far away and you should have more answers then. Good luck with the appt and keep us posted.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

Here(some pics are a little graphic) is some info about absent sperm counts. Its an infertility site so they talk about the procedure (which is usually an IVF cycle) to take the sperm from testicular tissue but it also talks about the causes of absent counts and some other stuff I thought you may find interesting. Good luck I hope you get a BFP soon!

I don't know anything about the whole sperm count thing but as for the ASC-US, I had that about 2 years ago Your doctor should just watch you and have you do repeat paps every 3-4 months over the next year to see if it goes away or progresses to something more, the good news is from what I was told the majority of women are able to get rid of these negative cell changes on their own.....I hope it all works out for you!

I wish you luck. My mom had ASC-US when she ttc my sister. She had lots of cervical problems. Everything worked out, sorry I dont have details on her situation. As for your DH, I hope everything works out.

Thanks to everyone for your kind words and encouragements. I have to say that I am not nearly as concerned about the ASC-US anymore. Thank you. I do have a little good news. My DH called the Urologist's office on Friday. He told them we already knew that a couple of the next steps would be to have his blood tested and to have another SA done.(DH will be traveling for 1 1/2 weeks after the initial appoint. on the 19th) The Dr. said that would be perfectly fine to do the test ahead of time. My DH was able to get in this morning for those test. Hopefully we will have the results by Friday to be able to discuss them with the doctor. We have not officially met the Dr. yet, but I already have a good feeling about him All we can do now is pray.
