Default Why should I have to resign??

I work full time 5 days/40 hours a week. Dr. found a cyst on my ovary and has given me a note to only work on light duty. My employer does not have anything like that unless I was hurt on the job. The DON had told me I may have to resign if I use all my benefit time (personal and sick time) I only have 4 days available, and I will be out for 6. I have a note from the doctor. I remember getting into a car accident and was out for a week. I didn't have any problems. I called, told my manager what happened and would I be back in a week. It was a different employer, but that shouldn't matter. It is bad enough I have to resign before I deliver because of the 1 year before eligible for FMLA law. I told the Dr. about the situation and she told me they cannot make me resign because I am pregnant, and they will give me short-term disability papers so I can get paid while I out. The money isn't an issue right now...I cannot lose my job over this.
