Default Rsv

Since we have a whole bunch of new babies on the forum and lots on the way, I have decided to post some info on RSV.

That's a really good idea to post that because my youngest son was hospitalized with RSV when he was about 4 months old. It's a very scary thing to watch your child get it and its even scarier to think of what might have happened had we not caught it. Good luck to all the new moms and for us moms who are at the tail end be very careful because our babies are going to be born in RSV season (which is typically October until April)!! Let's keep our babies safe!

Default thanks

thank you for this info. I was just speaking with a friend the other day who has a granddaughter with this illness and although I know it is very serious, I did not know exactly what it was and how easily it could be spread.

My 5 month old has RSV at this very moment actually. My husband came down with a horrible "cold" a few weeks ago (which lasted 2 weeks), so I kept him and our son as far apart as humanly possible living under the same roof, and also upped my vitamin C and elderberry intake (hoping to boost our sons as well, since I'm breastfeeding...) Try as I may to prevent him from getting sick, he came down with the same "cold" that we recently found out was RSV from his pediatrician... totally heart shattering. At the time, I'd heard of RSV, but not so much the specifics... it has been a very exhausting 9 days so far... it DOES get very scary at times, especially at night when he can barely sleep because of the horrible coughing and congestion... ugh. His pediatrician said that as a rule she generally hospitalizes an infant under 6 months because of the serious risks associated, but because he is breastfeeding she feels it's not coming down as hard on him. We brought home a Nebulizer just in case it got really out of control. RSV is also notorious for causing ear infections; our son had infections in both ears! Poor baby...

I inevitably got sick as well a few days after DS, and firsthand I can say it's no walk in the park... I got my first ear infection that I can truly ever remember in my lifetime. Fortunately, the last couple of days have been MUCH better and DS is his happy, cuddly, lovable, smiling self again. I felt so helpless and miserable seeing him suffer, hands down the hardest thing I've ever had to endure.

I'll be glad when this whole experience is just a very distant, distant memory... soon, soon.

It's a good thing you got sick...really. Your Breast milk now has the antibodies for this and I bet this is helping your baby out a lot right now. I hope both of you get better soon!
