Unhappy special needs verbal 11-year-old

I work with a verbal, semi-defiant special needs girls. She has other issues (fears-ocd). Her mother would like me to research the latest news or specialist on dyslexia. This little girl cannot learn the alphabet nor can she read. Where can I please seek help? lisa

In the USA??? Surely you jest. Why, dyslexia is not a classifiable condition in many school districts. And medical doctors know of its existence, but not its remediation. And you think there are actual schools nearby? Get real.

Here are some alternatives:
http://www.childrenslearningcenters.org/ (Had great success with this in northern NJ)
http://www.orton-gillingham.com/
http://www.dyslexia-parent.com/
http://www.dyslexia-parent.com/magazine.html

Good luck, depending on where you are you may need a lot of it. Also, check the education departments of colleges and universities. You may find some specialists there who can direct you to local resources.
