Default Sticker shock at Wal-mart

I went there tonight and wanted some Popsicle sugar free fudge pops. They've been $2.50 forever and I just bought the Tropicals Popsicles 2 days ago.. Now, they've raised the price to $3.78!. I think that's higher than Winn-Dixie now. Come on. A price jump of $1.28 is absolutely outrageous. What the heck are they thinking. I bought the Great Value version of Red Berries Special K and it was $2.46. That's only $0.04 cheaper than the Kellogg's version i've been buying elsewhere, for the last 2 months. It's like Wal-mart has lost its overbloated mind.

Get a load of this...Walmart has those women's canvas type shoes for $3.00 everyday price. Well they have now marked them up to $5.00 a pair and they went and cut the old price off of the tags. So that you can't say here it says the price is $3 and they rang up $5. GREEDY

Geez, they are just too much. I went tonight and noticed another round of price increases. I went for some hot dog buns and store brand 2-ltr soft drinks and the prices on both are now higher. The soft drinks that had been $0.50 forever are now $0.58. The hot dog buns have gone up from $0.97 to $1.07. I remember when they were $0.78 last year. The buns were just a price I refused to pay. I'm supposed to stick to the whole wheat. But, just get the regular store brand sometimes because it's cheaper than buying both. I had intended to do that tonight also. But, the price increase encouraged me to just get a packaage of the Sara Lee white wheat buns for $1.78. I believe they actually make less of a profit when customers choose the national brand product. What are they thinking?

Last week, I saw the Borden egg nog at CVS and thought the $2.79 price was ridiculous. I saw it tonight at Wal-mart and they have it for $2.66. Not that big a difference in price anymore. Even the gallons of milk are too high now. I guess it was hard to tell, when Albertsons was across the street. Wal-mart would always price theirs $0.05 or $0.10 cheaper than Albertsons. Now, the Great Value milk is $3.65. That's higher than I remember it being when Albertsons was there. So, possibly, Albertsons was keeping the price down a bit. I know we have strange laws in Louisiana that artificially inflate the price of milk here. But, you can always get milk for $3.29 at CVS and I believe the prices at Walgreens and Rite Aid are also cheaper than Wal-mart. Where is that everyday low price?

Really, I see price cuts at the supermarkets and price inceases at Wal-mart. Has it gotten to the point where Wal-mart thinks it's won the grocery wars and just doesn't care about the competition anymore? Are they going to blame it on the high cost of gas again? That would be ironic, since my local Wal-mart gas station always have lines now, since the regular unleaded gas there is $1.99/ gallon ($1.96/gal if you bother to buy a gift card in the store).

I rarely shop at WM just for this reason. They are "supposed" to be so much cheaper, but honestly, they are soooo much more expensive than the local grocery stores. After you consider the weekly sales and the fact that my local stores double up to $0.50, WM just can't compare. And what's even worse is b/c ppl don't realize this, they are shutting down the local stores. At least that's what's happening here.

People who do not pay attention to prices shop WM no matter what. They have a perception that WM is cheaper then supermarkets and local stores, watch too much of WM commercials...
I agree we can do much better at other stores with weekly loss leaders and doubling coupons. Even price matching is often no go, our WM has very limited selection, even take off the shelves exact products which Walgreens, CVS and supermarklets advertize for sale.

Frozen OJ concentrate- was .88, now $1.07
White bread- was .78, now $1.12
3-pk paper towels- was 1.48, now 1.64
canned beans, was .42, now .48
2-liter sodas (different brands) I used to see my favorite dr. pepper brands (A&W, 7-up) for .77, now they are 1.25
Milk is always higher than the other stores- $3.59/gal right now, kroger had a sale last week, $2.50, and Albertsons had them on sale the week before, $1 half gal.
Our Krogers doubles to .50, and triples to .39, so other than the higher prices at walmart, they are coupon un-friendly, I hardly shop there once every 6 weeks.

I believe it has something to do with the $4 generic pills. Walmart has lost thousands of dollars because of the $4 generic pills deal.

I went there tonight and was going to get a half a gallon of tropicana light juice drink. It used to be $1.00 everyday. But, had recently gone up to something like $1.17. I was going to get it anyway, until I reached for the carton and saw that it's now $1.37. They just had to be greedy. Now, another item that's off my Wal-mart shopping list.

I thought that $4 generic prescription thing was just in Florida. Either way, thought I'd mention....Target's matching that! Actually, from what I saw, Target has MORE meds on their list for $4 than Walmart! Even my generic Paxil, which used to cost QUITE a bit more, even as a generic, was FOUR DOLLARS! This is why I love Target so much....not only am I getting a good price, I get FANTASTIC service at the Pharmacy to go with it! I might just be lucky, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE the pharmacists at my store.

Actually, Wal-mart has already extended the $4 deal to something like 27 states. I think that's great and all. But, they gave it to all the surrounding states and skipped over Louisiana. That doesn't make much sense at all. I have to go get my 3 prescriptions filled this week. So, another $45, instead of $12, because all my prescriptions are on the $4 list.
