Default Still having eye issues

Well, Skylar's eyes are still draining that nasty green stuff. We've been on gentamiacin and ocumycen (both eye ointments) to try to eliminate it. Her doctor gave me the scrpt for the ocumycen last Monday and I have seen little improvement as a whole. When we first put it in it works for a bit but even then she's still oozing stuff out even after I put it in. So I called her doctor today (she told me to call in a week and let her know if it worked- she said she was "cautiously optimistic" that it would work, but that she saw us going down the road we are now obviously going to go down) and she has now referred us to a pediatric opthamologist and her doctor said we will likely have to have her eyes surgically taken care of to get her tear ducts open. They aren't closed all the way because she does cry tears, but she's still really gunky so I think there's a partial close to them, plus the sides of her eyes (the sides nearest her ears) are beginning to get irritated between me wiping at her eyes with a wet rag and the goo itself like the skin on the sides.

Have any of you had to have the surgery done with any of your children to get the ducts open? I know it's not a big deal but it still makes me a little nervous. Plus I feel so bad for her having to go through this. We see the opthamologist next Tuesday, but I have a sneaking suspicion as opposed to putting us on more meds they are just going to squash it and decide to do the surgery (since meds are obviously not taking care of the problem). I know they put th kids "out" to do it, but how long does it last? Are they in pain afterwards?

My DD had her tear ducts probe after she turned 1 yr. The dr said they like to wait till then because sometimes they clear up on their own. Hers were both totally blocked. They had in for only about 5-10 min and it was over. She was ready to go afterwards and didn't have any problems with it.
Some things you could try if you haven't aready is holding a warm cloth on her eye.
Putting your finger in the corner of her eye against her nose, press along her nose and pull down about 10 times a few times a day. That's suppose to help push the ducts out and maybe clear them.

Kals were really green and gupie for a few weeks and finally the doc said to just try saline drops, like visine and it worked. They never said his were blocked though.
