Default Stomach Flu

It has hit. We have the stomach flu at our home.

DS#1 and I both have it since last night.
Pretty miserable stuff.
Good thing we have two bathrooms.

DH went go get us some Gatorade just now.
I am finally able to sip on a Coke this AM.

DS#1 is in the bathroom again just now.

Am hoping the other 2 don't come down with it.

Anybody else going through this with their families this weekend?

If you REALLY don't want to catch it...here are some tips (I'm emetophobic, so know WAAAAAAY too much about noroviruses)

- Handwashing is your friend- make sure you scrub your hands well and long enough to sing "Happy Birthday" twice. This should be done before eating, or anytime you have come into contact with vomit or feces of the sick person. Hand Sanitizers DO NOT kill stomach viruses- only one brand called Germ Zapper does, and I believe you have to order it online. Purell, GermX, etc. doesn't.

- Stomach viruses are transmitted through the fecal/oral route, so the first order of business is cleaning the bathroom really well, or changestation if the child is in diapers. The best way to do with is with some bleach and water, as antibacterials like Lysol also don't kill stomach viruses. The only other way it's transmitted is if you are very close to someone when they vomit, as for a small amount of time you can "inhale" vomit particles. This only applies if the vomit is "fresh"- if you come across it several minutes afterwards, you are fine. I know it's hard when you have a little one, as you can hardly avoid it!

Angie, I hope you and your son feel better soon! And your daughter as well Divasmomma So far so good for us.....although Chris is going back to work Monday after 3 months of paternity leave, and since he is a nurse he will inevitably come in contact with it. As lonf as he leaves it at the hospital and doesn't bring it home!

Conner got it last night, and all day today. How long does it last? I was hoping it would be just a 24 hour thing.

Ugh! I hate the stomach flu. Luckily we've only ever had one person afflicted at a time in my house. At least since the kids have been in our lives. Before we had kids DH and I had it together over Christmas. Our first Christmas together in our own place even. That bathroom seemed to be forever occupied, but sparkling clean and disinfected by the time we were through with it. When it first struck all DH (DF at the time) could remember saying was 'Wow, you hold your own hair back!'
Ah, Good Times.

Not fun at all! Glad to hear that everyone is getting over the bugs.

Great advise, friends!
