Wink Storm adventures in the new house...

Well, 'tis been a rather interesting day and evening here lol!

To begin, we've had a nasty little storm hanging around today -- my mom and stepdad tried to make the 4hr drive from their home to my brother's house, but ended up stranded after it took them 4hrs just to get halfway due to the snow and winds... they're currently bunked down in a hotel with no power! My brother and sis-in-law are only about a half hour drive from us, and while our temps are staying high enough for the snow NOT to stick, they're buried to the point of needing the snowblower earlier today... hard to believe what a difference it can make being a little further inland at a little higher elevation.

That doesn't mean we got off scot-free lol. The winds here are gusting up to 110km/h, and our power was flicking all day... we were fully prepared with candles, flashlight, and oil lamps laid out in the living room. Unfortunately the power decided to die while I had Gabriel in the bathtub and I couldn't leave him to go get anything!!! We couldn't see a THING, and had to wait for DH to go retrieve the flashlight. The poor child was utterly terrified, and I wasn't too happy myself -- I'm claustrophobic, so heavy dark makes me panic. Not fun. It also doesn't help that because we just moved in this past week, we haven't had a chance to get oil delivered for our little backup oil stove in the living room... At least we can close off the living room doors to keep in the heat from the lamps and candles!

Add to that the fact that we have heat-required reptiles in a small room in the shed, and we were in a bit of a panic when we realized our Eliminator (small power pack we use for their heating elements in emergencies) was dead. Needless to say we plugged that sucker in quick this afternoon to get it charging lol. We also have heat packs ready and waiting for them should the power decide to go off and stay off at any point... BUT the power issues also mean that DH will be having a bit of a sleepless night because someone will have to monitor them in case the power dies again.

Anyhow, the power has been off three times so far... thought we might be done with it, but we just had another big blink a few minutes ago. Thus, we are prepared for the possibility of hunkering down in the living room for the night lol. Wish us luck...
