Story to top all stories
Here is my story, tell me if you have heard anything like this bofore.
I was at a Dollar General store and went to use my Zest coupons. Well she said you had to use one coupon for two bundles. Well I proceeded to argue with her. She persisted and said no. Anyways, I grabbed my coupons, got mad and cussed on the way out. Well I got to the door and she threw one of the bars of soap at me and told me to watch my mouth.
Well needless to say, I got a police report on it, still thinking of taking civil action against them, what do all of you think?

Yeah she actually hit me. I am trying to figure out if I should go with Simple Assault charges or just pursue it with their corporate office for resolution. At the same time do not want to get banned from the stores.
Or better to just let it go. Either way I have a report on the whole situation.

Too bad you couldn't have gotten her to nail ya without you swearing. . Then you'd REALLY have a rabbit in your hat.
If it were me, honestly, I wouldn't do anything. If I did anything, she'd be sure to get fired, and I'd figure that any resonable human (which I assume she is) wouldn't throw something at a customer unless she had other life stresses that were tearing her apart. I wouldn't want to add losing her job to those other life stresses.
If I did decide to do something, though, I'd use my pre-paid attorney and have him write corporate offices a letter, hoping for some kind of small settlement. Or at least some killer customer service at their stores from now on.

I would not let it go. It is assault plain & simple. Cursing is protected under the right of freedom of speech, but assault is a crime. I guarantee that if you had been the one to throw the soap, she would have had you put in jail quick!!! I would press charges, call corporate, fax them the police complaint, and then ask them how they are willing to compensate you, monetary value or otherwise. If you let it go, who knows how you will get treated next time or if she will do it again to somebody else.

Checked on it and I am clear on what I said. Office said even though you shouldn't have said anything, you have the right to say what you want and no matter what you said she has no right to throw something at you. I can have a warrant issued against her and she will go to jail for Simple Assault. Problem is I have to go court and everything. Second thing is the charge will probably get dropped, so I will be just wasting time to prove a point. Still haven't given up on following up with corporate though.

Re: Story to top all stories
If you really want my opinion--I think that you were wrong to cuss out the employee. Being denied a use of a coupon isn't a reason to cuss someone out. You can complain or argue a little if you want, but no need to take it further IMO. I don't like to go to a store and hear someone cussing, and it doesn't leave others with a good impression of you.
Yes, she was very, very wrong. She shouldn't have thrown anything at you, and especially aim to hit you. But I guess I see the irony in it that she thought that you needed to wash your mouth out with soap.
I think that you should tell the store manager so that if she has done this before, the manager can take care of it. You probably also should take it to the corporate office because I think that they would want to know this. It sounds likes she is someone who will probably not last in retail because you have to have a lot of patience to deal with the public so I doubt that she'll be working there long anyway.
Otherwise, I wouldn't pursue any legal action because this would be one of those lawsuits that people think are silly.

Well I didn't know that this would turn into so much of a discussion. Anyways, interesting to see everyone's opinions on everything though.

The wording on that coupon is kinda iffy in the first place. With something like that you should just cut your losses and try again some other time.I can have a foul mouth sometimes but, I've still practiced enough restraint to not cuss a cashier out. It's not worth it. I would drop it.

I would have your attorney write a letter to the corporate offices. I'm sure they will figure that you may take them to court and they will be quite generous. As far as the girl throwing the soap, well she was WAY out of line. I managed stores for 15 years (now I teach), and if an employee of mine threw anything at a customer, that would have been their last day at work. Completely wrong!
Not that there haven't been customers that I would have liked to thrown something at them. (I'm not referring to the OP)

Her eyes got wide and she was sooooooooooooooo peeved at me. She stormed off throwing my coupons everywhere, not ifnishing my order. The mgr came over and said why did you curse out my employee. I never did such a thing and told him so. In fact it was her. He cleaned up the mess, did my coupons, then deducted an addtl $20.00 of my total for "customer apology satisfaction" or some other junk like that.
The funny thing is normally im the one cusing the cashiers (well not them but the stores on their training of them) and this time I got cussed out!
Ive learned though from a great buddy, Talk to the cashier, make small talk, it helps them be friendlier with you! I had a problem other day, got double charged on my card, and became irrate when the mgr didnt want to give me my money back (Sorry Im not paying $140 when I only spent $70!). I yelled at him and called him a complete moron for not realizing the mistake. He then apologized and so did i. Then I embarassed myself because I realized whom he was (not a mgr or whatever but it was someone who used to be in my life a lot). Oh and give them treats!!!! I have a pet cashier at w/d and target and CVS and w/g. All because I was a) nice and shared deals, b) gave them some *hot* coupons c)talked to them and didnt get flustered or stuff. I love all my pet cashiers and now give them goodies. The other day I gave the cvs cashier some pullups coupons, she was THRILLED! Even though I just got them in a homemailer she was thrilled to save $3 off the things. Plus I get a friendly ring up.
Anyways that was long!

My husband once had a customer who was being very difficult, and this was in addition to many other things that were going wrong that night. As he went back to fix something, he sighed to another employee, "I know. This night's a b****, isn't it?"
Well, all the lady heard was "b****" and you can guess how mad she was. Fortunately, my husband had the good sense to apologize, tell her what he had really said, and then report the incident to his boss HIMSELF and no damage done. Scary for a minute there, though.
