Default Strep B

I just received my test results from by Strep B testing last week - I am apparently Positive ! I was reading online that I will have to have an IV with antibiotics during delivery. I was wondering if anyone else has had to have this done? And if your baby was infected at all or had any problems from the Strep B?

Step B is not a big problem at all 1 in 3 women have it. It is very common. You do have to get antibiotics in order not to pass it to the babe...but it's not a big probelm at all.

aww, i know that has to be stressful to hear

lots and lots of women are positive. the bacteria does nothing bad to you (the mommy), but left untreated, can be transferred to the baby and potentially make the baby ill. provided that you are treated with antibiotics, the baby should be just fine! depending on the pediatrician, they MAY do some lab work on the baby just to be on top of things. this happens much more often than you probably think. good luck!!

I wish I had been given IV antibiotics 12 years ago but back then it wasn't a routine test... My DD when she was 2 1/2 wks old became deathly ill...Thankfully I knew when my baby wasn't acting herself and took her to emerg and from there we went to a bigger hospital where she remained (with me) for a week...she was on a broad spectrum antibiotic and then when the test results were in they gave her something more specific for Group B strep...Wish it had been me in the delivery room instead of her...poor wee thing...So although it may seem scary the alternative is even more so!!! Sending you {{{{HUGS}}}}!!!

I had it too. With my second pregnancy. I was high risk anyways so they kept a close eye on me to make sure i would have time to have the antibiotics. Which i did. I had to have them for four hours before i delivered. There was no problems with my Autumn what so ever But it's not a big deal and like everyone else has said it is very common. Nothing to be worried about at all

I was positve with Strep B as well. I got antobiotics during labor. All they do is put the meds into your IV. I was fine and so was my son.
