Chinese moviegoers are only getting to see about 10 minutes of Chow Yun Fat in the lates Pirates movie. Censors in China feel that the movie is far too stereotypical in the old Hollywood sense. Also, they deleted mention of Singapore, because they don;t like the idea that Singapore has anything to do with pirates.
There were interviews on a reuters video I saw which indicated that the fans think the authorities are taking this too seriously. I mean, really, it's a movie based on a theme park ride where men wear eyeliner. How serious can it be?
This movie is available uncensored on just about every street corner in Beijing for about a dollar. Pirated, of course. Only about 20 Hollywood movies a year are allowed to be distributed in theaters in China.
Looks like censorship enables a very healthy black market.
