Summer Fever Heads Up....
So I am posting this to give all you mothers and care givers a heads up about something called a summer virus.
My middle son Judah woke up yesterday kind of cranky and whining and warm, but I assumed that it was due to teething. I kept him with me inside the house for the day and put him down for his mid morning nap. A half hour later he woke up screaming hysterically.
I rushed in a picked him up, he was burning up. I checked his temperature and it just kept climbing. It was 104.7. I ran to the phone to speak to the doctor and while I was on the phone he vomited. I got an appointment and called my Husband to come home with the kids and look after the twins.
Well in the 15 minutes it took for him to get home, Judah had vomited three more times and he was now pretty much limp in my arms.
I rushed him to the car and called my doctor on the way to the office, wondering if I should just take him to the hospital. They said no, that they would take a look at him right away and if he needed to go they would call an ambulance.
Well I made it in and they checked him out. The doctor pointed to a set of marks on his temple (what I had assumed where mosquito bites) and shined a light down his throat where he had a matching set on the back of his throat.
He explained that Judah was suffering from something called a 'summer virus' and that it could cause a high fever, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite and lethargy. I had never come across something like this, but the doctor said that he had seen a few cases this summer.
He explained that it is passed from child to child, so Judah could have picked it up at the park or the swimming pool.
I am now quarantined with my son in his bedroom, my twins have been shipped off to my mother in laws because this could be fatal to them due to the high temperature involved and I am praying that the other children don't get this.
Judah is extremely tired, spending most of the day asleep either in my arms or on a blanket on the floor. He has barely eaten anything, will only drink minimal amounts of water and has been sick numerous times.
I am writing this to give a heads up to everyone out there, if you notice red spots (they look like irritated mosquito bites) on your child's face especially, they are acting kind of spacey and irritable, and they are the least bit warm, better safe then sorry to take them in to get checked out. We were close to the 105 temperature that I never ever want to see in my life.
Hoping that we will be out of the woods tomorrow, or at least slightly on the mend.

Never heard of it. What state to you live in? It might be something they only get in a certain area.

I am in Illinois. I had never heard of it either, until the doctor told me. Just thought I would let you all know so that no one else is as surprised as I was.

Yes! Judah woke up this morning and hasn't vomited.... This was a huge worry for me because it would have meant a trip to the ER. He is still running a fever and is in need of Tylenol in regular doses, but he is getting more alert.
He is able to play for about 15-20 minutes at a time and then needs to relax in my arms. I ended up downloading a vegie tales movie on my comp. so that he can just relax.
Sleeping doesn't seem to be a problem for him, but I can tell he is tired of being around me, and tired of being sick. He ate a good breakfast, mostly fruit, but that is okay as long as it is solid!
So far none of my other children have shown signs of having this, but I got an email from a neighborhood friend and her son also has it.
Hopefully the fever will clear up and 24 hours after that, as long as no one else comes down sick, the twins can come back home.

zero information about summer virus on google or NHS direct, your profile also says that the names for your twins are mary and noah, which is different on your signature picture

Samual. Yes her profile does say her twins were going to be named something else. If you had read her post her SIL (I believe) ended up using the name Mary. So she ended up switching their names right before she had them.
I also noticed that there is nothing about this summer virus on google or anywhere. Did your dr give you more information on this. I know there is a bunch of weird viral things going on here in South Dakota but nothing like what your describing.

I don't know the exact name of the virus, the Dr. did say the full name, but honestly I was more worried about how to treat my screaming and vomiting child then I was about the proper name.
I do know that he took one look at the red bumps on Judah's face and knew exactly what it was. It did wipe him right out, but hopefully he is on the mend now.
And Samual, I try not to Google any virus that my children might have because I find that there is a wealth of information but most of it makes me panic. I trust that my doctor is giving me all the information that I need to best treat my son. And my children were going to be called Mary and Noah, but like Wanttobemommy stated, my s-i-l used the name Mary so I had to switch, so instead of a Mary and Noah I now have an Isaiah and Avigail, which seems to suit them well.
It could just be a normal bug that goes around, but since it first manifests itself with the red marks a couple of days before the child gets really ill, I wanted to let other know, that way if they see it on their child, they can at least keep an eye out. A high temperature is nothing to play around with.
