Default Summer weather work out blues

So is anyone else been having the summer workout blues the past month? Wholly moley, it had been super hot in Indy this past month. I really really miss walking twice a day!!

Before my recent miscarriage, I'd been walking twice a day for 30 min each time. After the m/c ended (which I only walked 20 min a day during most of ), the heat wave hit. Even at 11pm it was heat index was still in the 90s!! So I had to cut back to only walking once a day for around 40 min in the morning.

I couldn't supplement inside w/ fit tv channel shows b/c I have been spending several hours a day working in cleaning out my mother's house before it gets destroyed by the town. So w/ a bunch of bending, lifting, climbing stairs, I couldn't really afford sore muscles from Gilad or Sharon Mann.

Now the weather is a bit better, but w/ all the extra movement at mom's house, I am still only able to walk 30-35 min a day. I can only take so many steps every day w/out paying for it dearly physically. But in 2 weeks, I'll be totally done there....I can't wait for a full hour of excercise a day.....

I have now lost 65 lbs!!! 9lbs since the m/c. Not bad considering the shorter walking time and the increased stress I've been under. I'm thrilled.

Yay for the 65 lb weight loss! That's incredible...and you should be VERY proud of yourself. I would think the cleaning of your mom's house counts as much more than your walking. It sounds like a work-out in itself.

The heat hasn't bothered me too much...but I really love it. On the more humid days (we've had plenty) I wait until after 7:00 pm, sometimes after 8:00 pm, to to out walking and running.

There were days when I looked like I had been swimming due to the sweat, but I ran every day. I'm very proud that I did it. I didn't run as fast or as far...but anything is better than nothing right?

My road block now is school has started for me. So between being a mom of 4, working part time, and going to school full time, plus it gets dark faster...I'm really worried about keeping up with my exercise program. I KNOW it isn't going to happen. I'm hoping I can run/walk at least 3 days a week.

It's been really hot here, so I've been walking at about 5:45 AM before it gets too hot.
Sorry to hear about your miscarriage - I had one too - someday I'll get it right! lol

Bearmaker, wow 5:45am--I hate to think how hot you've been. I know lots of places had severe heat in recent weeks. I was doing good to haul myself out @ 9am to beat the heat. I've got a park w/ a long walking trail that is 90% shaded. Sorry about your m/c. I hope we'll get it right soon, too. Best wishes to you.

MissyChrissy, nice to know I wasn't the only one swimming in sweat! I am SOOOOOOO tired of being damp and sweaty. Although not running like you, I felt proud to get out there even on the worst mornings. It wasn't pretty looking though. Squirrels were turning in fear--. You are right--any attempt at exercise in awful weather is sure better than none! That was my motto as I drug my heft through the park in 90degree index at 9am, even the shorter walks. Sounds like your life sure picks up when school starts up!! Golly, you are a busy woman! Does your school by chance (not knowing if it is a college campus or what) have work out/gym facilities? My liberal arts college had a Y that resident and commuters could use. I hope you can squeeze in some work outs. But sounds like you have a lot going even if you can't. In high school I could read while riding the stationary bike.

The cleaning--actually sorting out--of my mom's house I count as a lot of extra movement and equal to one walk. It is horrible work, not really aerobic. More of a torture contest. The air quality in her house is making ds and I very sick (mold, dust, cat hairs, feces everywhere). It is just a horrible situation which will be ending soon one way or another.

I have been intentional about getting in the one walk a day during this hideous time w/ the house. I need the stress relief of the aerobic walk and the heart benefits. Especially since my mom is working one hour a day on her house (I work 3-4day) w/ only 7 days left and 80% of her house is still left to do.....arrrrrrrgggg I also don't want to get out of the pattern of exercise everyday. This has been key for my weight loss. I figure it'd be easier to go from once a day back to twice than from none to twice.

Speaking of which, I need to get out there walking....sigh....I'm sore from bending yesterday....but....need....to....go....must....ge t....exercise...... haha

I go to college, and they have a gym but even though this is my 3rd year, I've never used it. I have a treadmill at home for the days when I get too busy I don't have time to run during the day, and I can NEVER run as far on that thing as I do when I'm outside. I dunno why-it's purely psychological, but I hesitate to go into a gym to work out. I'm weird.

There's a town 3 miles away from my school. I'm tempted to use my break on Wednesday (11:00-4:00) to run to that town, eat lunch or whatever, and run back. Or, run/walk back-mostly walking!

I worry about getting too sweaty & not having a place to change/shower though. Ewe!

Default Haven't walked for 5 or 6 days....

This past week has been so awful and stressful w/ my mom's house--which is done!!! Or as done as she was going to get it. It should be torn down w/in a week.

OMG---I got out of my usual groove starting last Thur. No walking b/c w/ the house I was walking 14000 steps a day. I only usually do 10000 a day total w/o legs hurting. So an extra 3000-4000 would have really impeded my ability to work in the house. I keep telling myself I had to skip, but I've been so faithful for so long to walking it just kills me to miss that many days. I'm giving my body today off since I worked 12 hrs yesterday on 3 hrs sleep.

Eating has been horrible. She had no frig or microwave at her house. Heck, there wasn't running water. I tried to bring wraps a few days. But others we got fast food, though I wasn't as bad as I could be (like a sandwich but no fries). I really got off my snacking schedule. Sometimes it was 6 hrs between when I had anything. Not good. I didn't test blood sugar, but I'm sure it was a wreck.

But through the stress, bad food, no walking, I'm still w/in a lb of where I was last week. Whew.... But I have a weekend of being w/ family at a wedding....I'll try to be good...
