i think i have a high tolerance to pain meds, i dont take 10 vicodin or lortab like i hear some people do, when i ask for stronger meds, they treat me like a drug seeking addict. i am on lortab 5/500 take 5 a day, having lamenectomy l3-l5 on dec 3, 08. i have had multible surgeries, knees, hernia, rotator cuff and felt under medicated, what do i say to the doctor to let them know i am not like most others, i am 47 and do have degeneraive arthritis in spine, djd kness and shoulders. please help
Who are you asking for the meds? And who is treating you like an addict? Is it a clinic, ER, or your own doctor? Clinics and ERs probably see a lot of people asking for more meds, stronger meds etc, and not for legitimate use, so they are suspicious.
I hope you get some relief with your surgery. It is kind of a vicious circle - the meds can have side effects, but without them the pain is worse.

People have pain at differing levels.
I would believe you are having pain.
Sometimes comfort measures also help:
ice bag,
heating pad,
get your mind on a craft,
read a book,
gentle massage,
watch a funny movie. Humor helps.
