Default Swine Flu Vaccine

The swine flu vaccine will be available this october/november (varies based off what article i read it seems). Will you be getting it? If not for yourself, for your kids?

i won't be getting it for myself, nor will my husband or baby jack. DH talked with MIL tonight (she's in the medical field) and has decided DD will be getting it. As adamant as he is on her getting it, I am 3x more against it. We have never done flu vaccinations before, and i certainly do not feel safe doing it now. Too much of what i've researched makes me feel uncomfortable with it. (mainly only 19 weeks of testing before vaccinating the public; people being paralyzed after the vaccines in the 70's.)

needless to say this is going to turn into a large disagreement in our family, thankfully i do have until October/November (whenever the 19 weeks is up) to ensure DH completely sees my side of this.

Yes we will all be getting it. 3 of us have asthma and in a house with 5 kids I'm not going to be able to sucessfully quarantine them. I'm dreading them all going back to school in september. Although there is talk of schools shutting tlll the pandemic has died down and the vaccine is available. We have a national swine flu service which you can ring and get tamiflu which i would do at the first sign of anything but the uk government hopes to have 20 million people vaccinated by christmas.

We will all be getting it, I'm a teacher so if I don't get it I will either not be allowed to work or extremely irresponsible. Frank has very bad asthma so he has to have the normal flu jab every year as well, Mikey gets chest infections that hospitalise him just from the common cold. If you spend a lot of time around people who aren't vaccination against an illness, such as living with them, then you might as well not be vaccinated at all which is why Jamie and Pippa are getting it.

We'll be waiting a bit before getting it. Sounds bad, but we're waiting to make sure other children don't die or become maimed, as can happen with new vaxes. The first round is for "gathering data" and we generally don't allow our children to be used as guinea pigs for Sanofi. We do the same with all new vaxes, drugs, etc. In the end, we may get it because the fear mongering in the press has worked on us, sorry to say. We never, ever, ever do the flu vax or even consider it, but this one has us a little nervous.

I haven't even thought about it. We don't do the typical flu vaccine here, though.

I'm still not sure. We do get flu shots every year but I'm worried about getting a vacc that has only been tested for a few months. I'm also VERY worried that the larger population of people dying from swine flu is pregnant women. I've read a few articles that say pregnant women are at higher risk of death from swine flu then young kids.

I know that here in the US pregnant women and healthcare workers are at the top of the list to get a vacc. then kids and the elderly. I'm not just worried about effects to myself but to my unborn twins as well. I'm also worried about what could happen to Nevy. Chicago had one of the highest out breaks in the US and I know it could get really bad come fall. So I guess I will be talking to Nevy's Dr. on thursday about all this. I'll also be talking to my high risk OB when the time comes. I'm still not sure about it though. I think if we do get them I'll wait until a large number of people have been done to watch for side effects of issues.

When I think risk vs. benefit I know the small risk of the vacc could save our lives but it doesn't mean I will just jump on board with it until I've researched EVERYTHING. If things really do get as bad as they think then I guess I don't really have a choice.

i still haven't made up my mind, although i know mum is going to push me to at least have Gabby done. I refuse the cervical cancer vac as there isn't enough research into, at least the breastfeeding side and my dr did seem to agree with that decision, so why would i get this vac and give it to Gabby when it has even less research than the cervial vac?... i'm thinking that if we do then it's either Gabby or me, i don't want Gabby double expose to it if it happens to past through breastmilk... i don't think we will get it, but Joe is another matter, he travels to the city every day for work on public transport

Do they give babies the cervical cancer vaccine where you are?

no... they are offering (not sure if they still are but this is what it was when it came out) it free to all 12 to 26 yr olds, past 26 you have to pay, and it's like $70 per needle and there's 3 of them, under 12 that aren't vaccinating to my knowlegde... well i'm 27 in 2 weeks, so i'll have to pay
