Default Table Food Ideas...???

Emma just started on table foods, and I'm curious as to what everyone started their little ones on when they were new to it. Any ideas for my next grocery store visit? She only has her two front bottom teeth so far...

I always gave them a little of what I had as long as I could mash it up or cut it very small. They always loved potatoes, spaghetti, things that can be cut small and they won't choke on if swallowed whole.

Most agencies now are suggesting that it's much better for babies to start out on big foods that they can nibble on (like things that are too big to fit in their mouths. . .not like a grape or something) rather than cut it up small or mush it up into mush. Very interesting actually. . .in any case. . .just re-reading what I wrote and thought I'd clarify. If you give your baby bigger things that they can nibble off of. . .it actually helps prevent choking.

Scarlet loves eating. She had only two teeth until this month. Some of her favorites are:
-avocado
-any kind of meat, especially lamb (and I'm vegetarian! )
-cheese
-rice
-beans, lentils
-grilled cheese sandwiches
-pizza
-pancakes
-eggs
-noodles
-soup (she really loves soup!)

We also do what the pps do. We feed her whatever we're eating, so sometimes she gets curry, vegetarian sushi, chinese...whatever we got. HTH!

There is a book called Super Baby Food, by Ruth Yarmon it is a great book!!! It tells you what to avoid like Egg whites, chocolate, & peanuts..(allergies) and what to feed them at what months, portion sizes (suggestions) and nutritional needs. It is a great book. It also has healthy toddler recipes. I love this book. I don't follow everything it says, but it has been a great guideline for me to know that she is getting the right amount of the different food groups, and not forgetting something important.
Sorry to ramble on. But we started with Organic plain yogurt. And she loves it. (there is no added sugar) then avacodo, green beens, peas, sweet potatoes. We did do a new food every 4 days to give a chance to notice any possible allergies. But now that she is 10 months we don't worry about it quite as much as we did when she was 5 1/2 to 6 months old.

So what you're saying is you love this book? (pardon my weird sense of humor)

I like that one and baby food books by Anabel Karmel--she's written a few

Thank you so much for the suggestions (both foods, and books that you love...!!), ladies! I'll make sure to swing by the bookstore today and see if they have them!

I really liked the chart at the end of Super Baby Food that lets you know at what age you can introduce certain foods. I think I used that chart more than anything else in the book.

When did it suggest starting solids? Although I love Annabel karmel, I completely ignored her charting stuff. . .I assumed anything written for Americans (or Western society) would be the same.
