Default Take your shoes off?

Do you take your shoes off when you enter your home? And do you ask others to do the same? We do here to save on cleaning, although I never asked guests to do it.

Question the outside uckiness inside the home

We have always taken our shoes off, but let guests wear theirs. Some people take theirs off if they know us well and feel comfortable. Some people don't feel comfortable without their shoes. I have come a long way on this issue, I used to be so grossed out at what is on the bottom of peoples shoes and the uckiness being tracked in my house with my little ones playing on the floor all the time. But I have forced myself to look past the uck and realize the uck is everywhere and I can't controll all of it. I still get grossed out but hide it when people are over. I want people to feel comfortable in my home. I don't want them worried about bringing in the uck. Am I the wacko or does anyone else feel the same?

Around here, when realtors show homes, frequently the showing instructions will indicate that people are to remove their shoes. There are often slippers or diposable peddies on a shelf by the front door.

Mostly this is with asian households, but others may do this because they really like their floor.

we take off our shoes. anyone who comes over is either a close friend or family, so i don't mind asking them to take off their shoes.

Depends on the weather outside!
Our close friends and family all take their shoes off when they come in our house. We do it in theirs too. It makes us feel "closer."
Our acquaintances or business relations usually don't.
I know what the poster means with the realtors viewing houses! When they do a "realtor open house" there's about 20 pairs of shoes at the door!

Not here-I mean, i'm always barefoot, and so is one of my daugthers and Conner-but it's not a requirement.

Although...I'm seriously contemplating making it one. My dh is the worst-he wears boots from the time he sits up in bed till he lays back down that night...or nearly that long. That equals a lot of extra mud/dirt in the house.

We have become a shoe free house after completely remodeling our home this past spring/summer. We do not ask our guests to remove their shoes. However, most know how we are and take them off anyway.

We have door mats at all the outside doors to keep things tidy.

The one who tracks in the most, DS#2 usually leaves his shoes by the back door going to the garage.

If the weather is severe requiring boots, we immediately take boots off at that door and have a Rubbermaid container for the boots in the garage to keep things tidy.

At home, we usually run around in stocking feet or barefoot too.....unless we are having company that is.

My parents were (and still are) a shoe free house, and I carried it over to my own home.....We don't usually ask guest to remove their shoes, unless they are family or close friends.....

I never really thought of this before....we don't have shoes on in our home unless we are getting ready to go out or coming in from out side. but we take them off once we are inside...its just something both Dh and I grew up with...everyone we know also take their shoes off in their homes as well.
