Default Tax refund calculator?

Does anyone know of a fairly good estimator for a tax refund midyear? (Well, I guess the year is almost over...) I'm curious to get an approximation for what our refund will be, since this is dh's first year at this job. (Side note: he drives me crazy, he thinks that the government is sane and rational and so he is only supposed to take one deduction per family member! So I know we're going to get something back.) I am really curious to know if approximately what our refund will be, all things even.

TIA!

I have used Turbotax for a number of years now, and it works well for me to do my own taxes. Also very convenient for doing FAFSA calculations for college.

To estimate a refund, I go into the current software and start new "new" return. I just don't finish it or save it.

This is not accurate, since rules change from year to year. I am sorry I bought a water heater a few years ago, when there was no deduction for it like there is this year.

It does give you an idea of what to look for, and a jump start on assembling the info you need for your return. Once the current software update arrives, it is fairly easy to plug in the numbers.

I like turbo tax and use it to figure out my taxes also but in the mean time. . .

go the the good old irs. On irs.gov, I think it's in the bottom right corner. . .it will have an exemption calculator. It's really easy. . .do the calculations and at the end it will give you a pretty accurate figure.

btw, we are a family of 7 and take 13 deductions and still end up with about $2000 back.
