I agree, it is a classroom for crying out loud, not Survivor or Big Brother where it's acceptable to vote people out. I don't care what behavioural issues the little boy has, getting his peers to agree to eject him from the classroom is completely unacceptable. If the teacher could not handle him, she should turn to the mother, her supervisor or the principal, not to a class of five year olds. That's disgusting

EEEEK! I used to work for this district, but not at Morningside. I'm shocked! She should be fired.

small world eh? is it typical for the district to reaqct the way they did? or do you think they'll take more action? i can't believe the teacher actually admitted to the paper that the voting took place. i would expect her to deny, deny, deny.

Thats sad to do that in class....esp in kindergarten!!

I had a parent complain about me doing something kinda sorta similar....im a cheerleading coach--team sport where if ONE person is not at practice, the whole team suffers. They knew (6th graders) if they missed 3 practices they wouldnt be on the team anymore. One girl missed her 3, and then another one RIGHT before we competed. (im not talking about football cheering--this is the real competition kind) I had the girls all close their eyes, and since it was THEIR team, vote on whether the girl should be there or not. Well, every single girl either didnt vote of voted her off the team for breaking the rules. Of course that mother didnt like me very much

I honestly don't know because I've never heard of a teacher doing this! There are far better ways of dealing with these situations that don't shame or humiliate the child. The article did mention a DCF investigation and they are pretty tough down there. I'm guessing the district is waiting until that investigation is completed to make a decision. I'm surprised she admitted to it too, but it would be pretty hard to deny if they questioned the kids. Lying in the first place would have made the whole thing harder for her.

That is disgusting. Especially for such a young child. I'd assumed it was older kids 'voting' out a violent kid or something, before I read the article.

I can't believe the bit about 'each kid saying what they didn't like about him' - that was going way too far IMO.
