With some of my kids I just had to watch for their cues and nurse with finger ready. You have pretty much nailed it on the head. . .stubborn. It's not like there's a magical cure for this but one thing I'd consider trying is either giving her something cold on her gums right before you nurse or numming her gums before you nurse. The numming may or may not work--for me it did but not on the front two top teeth. . .

I don't know how to fix it, I just know it's pretty common. My SIL and my good friend had problems with their babies doing this. My SIL would take her son from her breast and pop his mouth with her hand, not a hard smack, just enough to get his attention and would tell him no. (I don't understand the logic behind it but it only took a few more times and he stopped). And my good friend had to stop nursing all together because her son wouldn't stop doing it at all. So...good luck, hopefully Val's numbing advice works for you.

at the age Ellison is i found teething gel just before feeding worked best (although Gabby wasn't really biting, but it was uncomfortable all the same)

I must confess, my daughter only did this twice. The first time, I got such a fright I retaliated by smacking her. It took 6 months for her to try it again, and my response was much less reactive. I simply removed her from the breast, and sat her down on the floor, and walked away, saying that she could not bite mummy.
She never did it again.
My son tried chewing the breast. it took him a little longer to get the message. Again, I removed him from myself as well as the breast. Interesting that they hate being placed on the floor in the middle of a feed!

Good luck!

BTW - have you tried amber beads - old wives tale cure for teething pain.
